    Delivery Captain License Required?

I never held a license and did more deliveries than god. One day insurance companies decided it’s better to have a licensed Capt for whatever reason. I got a 200 ton. Then I thought it was crazy so I gave it up. No you absolutely do not need a license to deliver boats. The insurance company may...

    Fuel tank estimate

On my 1990 Albin 40 I have approx 170 each side and 50 in the keel. That is by doing the math. I should have filled it when I had the tanks cleaned but my intent was to mark my sight tubes as I was filling because of their configuration. So when totally filled I carry almost 400 gallons and...

    Fuel tank estimate

If you know what make and model and year the boat is there is probably pretty good literature on what should be in place. If they cleaned and drained the tanks how much fuel did it take to fill it?

    Teak paneling repair and replace

I use marine ply and then put the teak veneer over it. Most production boats are built that way. Veneer isn’t as hard as most say just go slow and glue as you go

    water tanks, clean or replace

You can. It is an immediate cleansing of the tank but does not effectively treat the water as chlorine does

    water tanks, clean or replace

To cramming I took off the clean out on top of the tanks and sucked all the water out with a shop vac. Cleaned and disinfected with bleach and refilled. If you have a leak it can be easily fixed with epoxy putty on the outside of the tank. Tanks are usually stainless so the only place they leak...

    Lehman oil levels?

Dip each engine with the other engines dipstick. If there is the same discrepancy I’d wonder if all the oil is not getting out of the engine with the higher amount on the dipstick

    Best Trawler for <$100k-$125k?

Lots of people are saying the market is going to soften way up. I don’t agree with fuel prices down many people may want in driving the soft market north again quickly. All boats are good for something you need to know what that something is. The great loop? Crossing an ocean? Coastal cruise...

    Boat Ranking / Selection spreadsheet

After years of boatbuilding and sailing I knew the day would come when I went over to the dark side and would buy a trawler. All those years in the industry I knew I would get an Albin good quality at a fair price. That was my matrix

Can I drag anchor and drift away for a second? Does anyone know the thickness of steel tanks in an Albin 40? I bet I scraped 3mm off when I cleaned mine up. Now I may be concerned about how much is left

How bad is too bad when it comes to moisture?

I never worry about the deck. This usually has 3/4 plywood and if it has gotten wet and dried a hundred times it will be fun if you dry it out. Stringers another story depending on what they are cored with. The hull is usually solid glass in that era so that shouldn’t be a big concern either...
