Looking for a Liveaboard marina FL.

I was in Regatta Point for about 18 months. Nice marina but $$$. I was going to move to http://www.parrotcovemarina.net/ but circumstances made me head to Baltimore instead. Parrot cove was small but protected, and had that small town feel. IDK what he charges /ft now though.

running gasoline/diesel mix in an emergency

ofer, Octane is the explosive value of fuel. Typically Gasoline has 87 (or More) Diesel fuel has about 10 Octane. So Gasoline has about 8.7 times the amount of explosive power of Diesel. Don't do it, it isn't just bad for your engines, they can literally explode like having a grenade go off in...

travelling on the ocean whats considered safe

FWIW, My son & I were coming north from Lady Finger Marina. We figured we could make some distance by going outside. NOAA said "1-2 ft with 10-15 knt winds". 3 hours later we got 8-10 ft waves and 30-40 knt winds. 11 hours later we limped back into Lady Finger for 2 days of cleanup and...

    After Fiberglass repairs

A bit more information. When my son and I were coming up the ICW we got a load of bad fuel. This caused a LOT of trouble. We took on 18 inches of water and both engines quit. The generator started and ran allowing the 2" trash pump to pump us out. (It took 2 hours running full blast) The port...

    After Fiberglass repairs

Star Chaser had her blisters repaired and will be headed back into the water in the reasonable future. However she needs a lot more work before she (& I) are ready to start cruising. To do those repairs Star needs to be moved from Beaufort to Baltimore. About 500-600 Miles. She.ll be on the...

    Blister Question

Ready, How many blisters is "Many". I had Star done 3 years ago, 83 of them ranging from 1/2 to 4"x6". Some of the bigger ones were leaking through the hull. The bill was an unexpected $3800. My suggestion is to find out how many blisters there are and how big they are. Repairs can be spendy.

    Securing furniture

ComoDave, I totally understand. My son & were bringing Star from Bradenton to Baltimore. We left Lady Island & NOAA "said" 1-2ft with 5-10 knot winds. We got 6-8ft waves with 40-60 Knot winds. 11 hours later we were back in the exact same slip licking our wounds. The only thing that didn't...

Simi, Agreed, but that particular welding isn't worth buying IMO. Not enough amps or control.

    Welding expertise

Seevee, RE: Lincoln Square Wave TIG 200 TIG Welder Don't waste your $$$. Not enough amperage or enough adjustability to do what you want and get good results. Hint Harbor Freight sells those and their Mig brother. DAMHIKT Star.

    Welding expertise

SeeVee, I'm in the same boat (no pun intended) sort of. I need a new set of Stainless risers (4 of them, 10k-20k). Too much $$$ for me. Plan B, take a few welding classes at the local community college (Continuing Education), buy the welders (used) and start practicing. Start with steel...

    Barnacle removal

Lollygag1, Let them sit for a few days and tap on them with a dead blow hammer. the glue they secrete breaks down after a few days of being dead and dry. I use a set of stainless steel meat cutters gloves whenever I have to bash barnacles. Those shells are SHARP! StarChaser

    Using the TT35 as a solar-electric trawler

Scott, 30A @ 120V in a single hookup vs 50A @ 240. RMS actually gives you more usable power with 240V. You get charged for 2 30A hookups which will cost more$ per Amp. Before committing to your conversion I would bite the bullet and obtain a copy of the ABCY standards. You may find that...

    Using the TT35 as a solar-electric trawler

Scott, Welcome aboard! May the EMF be with us. I have a '82 Carver 3607 with contingency plans of making a Hybrid out of her if either of my diesels are FUBAR. Most marinas will have 30A hookups and may or may not have 50A. Using 2 30A hookups is more $$ but won't get you anymore...
