Interior woodwork, canvas, hull buffing and waxing in Clear Lake, Texas Area

Yes, we are just finishing up a couple of months of cruising in the Exumas. For a bottom job, call Jose at Simpson Marine. His number is 281-381-6938. He does excellent work at very reasonable rates. For cushions, call Debbie at TNT Upholstery at 832-867-1283. She redid our cushions in the...

Another Sales Tax and State Registration Scenario

Would that still be the situation if I registered the boat in a non-sales state like Delaware?

Boat that needs some love in Kemah Texas Area

Sorry, I meant Peter, not Pete. To answer your last question, we are going to bring her to Texas on her own bottom. We will have a full service on her twin Yanmars and have Bo Bohanan from First Mate Mechanical Services in Jacksonville look her over good! Going to be a fun adventure!

Boat that needs some love in Kemah Texas Area

Thanks for your insights Pete. We spent a beautiful day visiting various vendors in the area trying to get a feel for the skill sets and cost. However, cost is hard to pin down without seeing the job with their own eyes. Fair enough.

Boat that needs some love in Kemah Texas Area

Thanks Pete for sharing your opinion. I agree with you on the nonsensical notion of building equity with a boat, but this is about an experiencal adventure for my wife and I as we prepare to do the Loop in 2022.

Boat that needs some love in Kemah Texas Area

I have heard that Pepe’s is the place to go. I need to mull over the thought of managing woodworking and canvas projects from a distance.

Boat that needs some love in Kemah Texas Area

We are in the final throes of purchasing a boat in Jacksonville, FL that desperately needs some love! We are tapping into the collective wisdom on this site for recommendations to get this done in the Clear Lake/Kemah/Seabrook area. Our initial work scope includes ripping out the carpet and...

Interior woodwork, canvas, hull buffing and waxing in Clear Lake, Texas Area

We have a purchase agreement in place for a boat in Jacksonville and we are looking for recommendations to have some work done here at home in Texas. The plan is to bring the boat back to the Clear Lake/Kemah/Seabrook area and get the work done. This includes ripping out the carpet and...

Another Sales Tax and State Registration Scenario

The boat is 12 years old, so no-go on that sweet deal in Florida.

Another Sales Tax and State Registration Scenario

Another twist I was thinking about was paying the sales tax for the boat in Florida, but registering the dinghy in Texas so at least I would have a Texas registration decal.

Another Sales Tax and State Registration Scenario

Once we get the boat back to Texas, we are planning on living aboard, so taking it to RI (or any other jurisdiction) is a no go. I checked this link comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/boat and the cap of $18,750 was introduced effective Sept 1, 2019. Nice catch! The issue remains of keeping the boat...

Another Sales Tax and State Registration Scenario

I know this issue has been discussed adnauseam, but I’ll throw out a scenario I am considering and see what the more clever minds on this forum think. For context, we are looking at a potential purchase of a trawler currently located in Florida around the $400K price point. Our short term plan...

    Interesting boats

Excellent point Ted; the below deck aspect of this boat is certainly cave like.

    Interesting boats

LOL; my wife would strongly disagree with you. You can tell that this boat was designed by a dude. I mean, you have to walk through a beautiful, well organized engine room to get to the master. Sounds like heaven to me!

Looks really nice; love the lines. How much does she draw? Is the 18’ air clearance with the mast down?

    Interesting boats

I used to own a 30' Cornish Crabber that had what was called "bilge keels' in the UK. They are nice when you have a significant tidal range.

Good point about the lack of ER images. Those forward berths will only accommodate short term guests ;)
