Do experts recommend separate inverters and chargers?

I'm a big fan of the Victron charger/inverter I've got onboard. Mostly because I have just a 30A shore connection. The unit will modulate the charge current to the batteries down from the 100A max I've set based on what the rest of the boat is consuming. This keeps the boat from exceed my...

What did you fix on your boat today?

Too many to count by now, but my favorite so far has been failure of my flybridge bow thruster control. A week of rain got a bit of water into the electronics causing the thruster to run and run ...and run, until the battery was too low to hold the solenoid in. Then it stopped long enough for...

    Clogged holding tank vent

Mine was clogged recently. I sprayed water into it; right through the screen. It took a few minutes, but the crud stopped coming out my end of the vent and I was through. Double-check to make sure you have the right vent, and NOT a fuel tank vent... Close call for me!

Coffee challenge, Freeze dried versus pod crap

Freeze dried coffee is typically cheap robusta - yuck... I grind my beans on the boat and brew in a french press - It makes me happy. Any good bean you buy in a sealed bag will be blanketed in nitrogen to give you a good long shelf life. After you open 'em, use 'em... K-Cups contain anywhere...

    Chasing the sunset...

Hi Folks, My wife and I are building a home in the Carolinas and planning to spend considerable time cruising up and down the east coast. We're very excited. We've been scouring the go-to sites, dealers, and forums for the right trawler; kicking tires and of course seeing those I should have...
