Mainship 40 Sundeck 1986 Wandering Star
Hi Everyone, We're new to this Mainship forum. We bought her last July. She needs some work on some of her systems, but all in all she's in good shape. We'll look forward to chatting with y'all as we spruce her up more. In the meantime, safe travels.
Hi Everyone,
We recently bought a new to us Mainship 40, which came with a Splendide 7100XC stand-alone ventless washer/drier. It's 21" deep, 24" wide, and 33" tall. Not sure exactly how old it is, but it looks brand new and works perfectly. But we don't need it and have decided to sell it...
Thanks for your input on Vulcans vs Rocnas
Just want to thank all of you for taking the time to give me your thoughts on how the Vulcans compare to the Rocnas. Had a traditional Rocna on our sailboat which we loved. But the roll bar won't fit our new (to us) Mainship 40. Your input about the...
I appreciate your input. We had a Rocna 20 on our sailboat which was terrific, but it won't fit on our new 1986 trawler. Glad to know the Vulcans work equally well.
A tradition Rocna won't fit in our new boat. Thinking of a Vulcan. Totally believe in the traditional Rocna. Glad you're having good results with it. I was sure you would.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how the holding power of a new style Rocna Vulcan anchor compares to an old style Rocna with a roll bar of the same size?
Hi Everyone,
We are in the process of buying a Jefferson 42. It's a private sale and no broker is involved. ( Hopefully it'll pass the survey on Tuesday!). It's currently registered in Massachusetts. We want to get it documented with the Coast Guard.
Can anyone give me a phone number or a...
Prospective Jefferson 42 SE Owners
We're looking at a 1988 Jefferson 42 SE up in Portsmouth VA. Needs some cosmetic TLC, but overall seems sound. We've put down a deposit. A regular survey and a separate engine survey on the twin Cummins 6BT's in it get done on 5/9. Any thoughts on things...
I've always liked them. Do you really need them in the ICW or the Bahamas? Probably not. But if you like the look, get a boat that has them. If we all liked the same style, boats would be pretty boring. The immense variety of styles and owners' modifications out there is one of my favorite...
Nordhavens Quality
Hey guys, come on. Methinks the Nordhaven naysayers protest too much. Like any motor yacht Nordhaven have some great qualities and some flaws. I work PT at a local West Marine and all the owners I've met love them. Yes, a single engine can be a real challenge in a tight...
Well, my interest in fuel economy on my boat has nothing to do with appearance, it has to do with my desire to cruise vs the depth of my pockets. Sure don't want a 'dock queen' that I can't afford to travel far in.
Engine size has been a concern because we don't want to wind up with a boat that that we love in every other respect but that we can't afford to cruise any distance in because of fuel costs. If small engines were the only way to get good fuel economy, then we'd be forced to limit ourselves to...
Thanks for all the help and guidance. With the information you all have shared I can at last make a well informed choice on whether or not to buy a boat with Dad's. Just want to know what I'm getting into with whatever engines a boat has.
Hi Everyone,
Your replies have been a HUGE help. They have completely changed my thinking about large vs small and have opened up a number of boats to consideration that I had originally passed over due to engine size
Hello y'all once again. Still shopping for a 40'-45' trawler or motoryacht, and now I'm trying to figure out what size engines we should look for.
A number of people have told me that since diesels are meant to run hard, it's best to get a boat with the smallest engines that will deliver the...
Hi Everyone,
Still trawler shopping. If your boat has Detroit engines, I'd live to hear your thoughts about fuel economy, maintenance, longevity, etc.
Thanks,
