Instructions on how to apply online for FCC radio license

Done the above for 3 different boats, went to the Bahamas on all 3 and nobody asked to see anything, ever.

Faster trawler than just hull speed but seaworthiness?

Small world, I had one of those as well, a 2016 World Cat 2770, Glacier Bay addition. Sold it 18 months after purchase and got more than I paid for it brand new. Shoot me a message if you want to talk 2770.

Faster trawler than just hull speed but seaworthiness?

AT: American Tug? Which one had the horrible story after a buyer bought a used one with 25 hours on it and got leaks and delaminating with the factory doing nothing to help out? Was that a Ranger Tug, or some other brand? (3-4 years ago maybe?) I am also contemplating a “new boat”, but not sure...

Hans Christian Independence 45? Any input?

Thx for the additional info and yes I would not buy a boat requiring a new engine, especially when the present engine is advertised as new..

Hans Christian Independence 45? Any input?

I have been eyeballing that boat (on the internet) the last 2 days. Sold my Albin 28TE last year and miss having a boat for longer trips and miss the keys and the Bahamas. I like the single 300hp diesel (and the fact it is brand new with only 62 hrs on it) Also like the bow thruster and the...

    L.l.c.?

Aha, so you were teaching classes? Yes, I can see how a few would feel the need to be an Instant Captain but lose sight of the big picture, like responsibility and taking good care of your passengers who thrust you with their lives. The "Captain" stuff and the stripes are meaningless if the...

    L.l.c.?

Yeah, I get insurance discounts for both experience and tickets, OUPV, 50t then 100 ton. My initial sea time was all commercial, tankers, bulk cargo and a passenger ship. (Norwegian Merchant Marine) The USCG loved it as it was all documented in my Sea Time Logbook) I have also worked in...

    L.l.c.?

I had my last 3 boats within an LLC, not just to limit liability, but also because the boats were in charter as in a legit business. (looks better in case of an IRS audit) I also have a recreational boat owned by the LLC, no downside and maybe easier to sell later. (No sales tax) As for licensed...

DIY rebuilding of diesel engine Yanmar 6LY

Great info on Canadian Diesel Land Cruisers. As for the 6LP hp: The STE is rated for 300 hp and the 6LPA for 315: There is no difference, same engine but the 6LP was built in Japan and the 6LPA in the US = A for America. The additional 15 hp are from using cooler intake air for a higher rating...

DIY rebuilding of diesel engine Yanmar 6LY

Sold the boat 2 months ago: Yes I had websites showing Toyota parts, then used those part numbers to search on ebay and Google. Typical examples would be the timing belt, $200 Yanmar, $50 Toyota, belt tensioner $280 Yanmar, $45 Toyota. The problem was that the diesel Land Cruiser is...

DIY rebuilding of diesel engine Yanmar 6LY

Yanmar parts are ridiculous expensive. Until I realized my Yanmar 6LP-STE are similar to a Toyota diesel used in the Land Cruiser: Toyota parts are a lot cheaper, but are the same parts and the same quality. (The cooling system is obviously different but still lots of Toyota parts for 1/3 price)

    Wood GB 33

My first boat was a 44' classic woodie, in the Caribbean. Never again, bad mistake but I was 28 years old and didn't listen to warnings from wiser men. Wooden boats last for hundreds of years in cold climates if cared for, not so in warm waters. Nuff said..:ermm:

1 vs 2 diesels, insights please..

I read the whole thread today: As mentioned before, no right or wrong answer.. I had single and twin power boats as wells as 2 sailboats (twin engine really as the sails go up if the engine goes down and vice versa) Also had numerous smaller boats, mostly center consoles, single and twins, 17'...

    28te

I have owned an Albin 28TE for almost 5 years and have done charters for the same time: No fishing charters, don't want the blood and the guts on my deck, nor the heavy duty wear and tear that comes with fishing. Only Sightseeing charters, usually little old ladies sipping champagne while we...

Is there any new marinas in the pipeline in usa

A new "Marina" is being built in Palm Coast, Flagler County: Marina del Palma is a residential marina, you buy a lot, then build a house. The Marina will dry stack your boat, up to 30' in a boat house. Larger boats can buy a slip. We bought a lot there last year and are planning to build...

    Painting bow thruster props….?

I use Trinidad bottom paint on my Vetus plastic prop. Seems to be holding up good, but I also use the boat and the thruster at least once a week and much more when we are cruising.

Not Miami, but I have a dock for rent in Fort Lauderdale on a residential canal. $550 per month, no live-aboards.

    Who keeps impeccable maintenance records?

It makes a big difference to some of us. (After 40 years in aviation it seems perfectly normal to document all maintenance and repairs, and in my case I save every piece of paper for the IRS in case of an audit)

    Who keeps impeccable maintenance records?

Nah, he was selling it for sure as they were stepping down to a smaller 19'CC. He insisted on a survey to make darn sure the buyer got a good boat no surprises. He also had a new battery installed in the EPIRB, filled up the diesel tank and gave me $500 in cash towards any unforeseen expenses...

    Who keeps impeccable maintenance records?

Thx, but only useful for me, and the next owner.;) The previous owner started this maintenance spread sheet when the boat was new 2001. I just kept it going after purchase. When I first saw the above records I decided to buy the boat, no survey needed. (October 2017) The seller however insisted...
