    New Shower Trick

You will not feel pulses but the pressure will vary a few pounds as the pump cycles through the accumulator tank. The problem is that there is more restrictions in your hot supply than in your cold supply which is always more direct. As I said in my previous post you need a variable speed pump...

    New Shower Trick

I had exactly the problem you describe with a ParMax pump and an acumulator tank. I removed the accumulator tank and pump and installed a variable speed pump with no tank. No more problems.

Any reason not to share engine and gen start batteries?

My port engine battery is stand alone as is my generator battery. The starboard engine start battery also charges the house bank through a combiner that cuts off so that start battery will not be drawn down. The Starboard engine has the bigger alternator. I also carry a 20 foot pair of heavy...

    Sliding Dinghy Davit??

Plus one on the dinghy caddy. They mount in slide in tracks anyway so Kevin the owner, who is a great fabricator may be able to fabricate a longer track with several mounting points. Looking at mine I see that with a track I could move the dinghy forward at least 18 inches from where it is...

    What is your greatest fear?

I guess my biggest fear is my lady finding out what I ACTUALLY spend on boating.

    Own or lease your slip?

I own my Dockominium east of Toronto. Condo fee is $115 per month including electric and water. Property taxes are $350 per year and I own the bottom under my slip. Slip is 47 x 16 with 33 foot finger and a 50/125/250 power tower. They sell for about 35K right now and do not stay on the market...

Older OA 42 or Newer Bayliner 3988, Feedback wanted

I have been a full time liveaboard on my 1997 3988 for 13 years. I use it to cruise a lot and as my home. Over the years I have enjoyed it and spent $$ on upgrading the systems. 2 new engines installed myself. Most other work I do myself as well. My reasons for buying this model were many and...

    Turbo lag

The lower oil pressure may be an indicator of the turbo lag. Oil pressure entering a ball-bearing turbocharger needs to be between 40 psi and 45 psi at the maximum engine operating speed.

    Cummins 6BT 5.9L-M starter removal

Cummins Part #: 3903834 Fits 1994-2007 5.9L Cummins only. These DO NOT work with a starter spacer. They are M10x1.5x35mm long. Replacement starter bolts, takes 3 to replace all.

    Cummins 6BT 5.9L-M starter removal

As you can see it is 12 point bolt head. 10mm Get a socket and label it for the future, don't depend on your mechanic to know what is needed. He may mess your engine up before admitting that he did not know.

    Cummins 6BT 5.9L-M starter removal

Most real Cummins Mechanics know that the starter bolts are special and require a 10mm 12 point socket. It is the only 12 point socket needed on the entire engine. I have one taped to the lid of my tool box labeled for starter removal. They come out easy as pie with a couple of extentions...

    My dometic is possessed!

When reprograming your control there is one very important item, #16 I think, as to the type of fan motor. Old style Shaded pole ( like a soup can attached to the unit) or new style Split capacitor (no soup can) needs to be entered when programing.

    Westerbeke 8kw fuel solenoid issue...

When I bought my 97 in 2006 the westerbeke coil would not pull open but would hold when running. For me I found that the linkage was all corroded for the pull down and binding making it hard to open. I got all new linkage and keep it greased now and all is well. I did not have to replace the...

    Proper Radio Channel Usage

Lake Ontario marinas and Yacht Clubs monitor 68. I was in the St Lawrence overtaking an ore boat of 700 feet. I radioed on 16 "CSL Salarium, Adios Dinero Two Whistles". Was Told I Need Bigger Rudders

Since Mr. Firefly seems to be MIA I wall comment that my lady thinks I need a bigger rudder. Apparently, smaller high speed rudders are not adequate for longer slower cruises.

Why do watermen feel so entitled?

I'm from Prince Edward Island. There are no pleasure boats in Tignish Harbour this early in the season. Opening Day for lobster. Enjoy the sound of the DDs

    Fresh water dockside port

The pressure regulated inlets are designed to fail to zero rather then fail to full pressure. This will not save your boat in the event that a hose breaks onboard but it will regulate the flow so it sinks slower.

    Age, Health and Liveaboards?

71 next month and 16 years aboard. They have been some of my happiest years. I am blessed with good health, no medications and a positive attitude. Planning to retire soon and do the snowbird thing for a few years and then re-evaluate. No plans for moving to the dirt on the horizon.

    New engine install

Great Innovative approach and it obviously worked very well. Good luck with the hookups and it will be turning and burning on no time.

    New engine install

Here is how I did an engine swap in the water. 30 ton crane, a 24 foot house beam attached at the centre. Engine swivel mount at one end and a skid of interlock bricks at the other stabilized with a chain fall so we could tip the beam up and down. We walked the boat forward and back in the slip...
