    1984 34 Mainship MKIII Trawler

Mainship MK III is considered by many to be the best ratio between salon and cockpit of the MK series, with no bulkhead blocking off galley, separate shower, has a transom door to the swim platform with heavy duty davits for dinghy. The boat has no softspots, deck or window leaks or blisters...

What grease on rudder ball joint?

84 MS Mark III. boats out of the water, looking at the ball joint below the rudder, would like to grease it while I can. Question is, if I just push grease into the top of the joint will it flow down with use, or should I spray silicon grease in, which will definitely flow down to the entire...

Cockpit noise level over 1800 RPM

1984 Mainship 34, cummins 6bt 210 engine. Under 1800 rpm or so, noise level in cockpit is quite low and a non issue, but if I go over 1800 rpm the noise level in the cockpit increases dramatically. Any other MS 34 owners experience this? Possible issues could be the bearing in the bulkhead...

    Rudder Post Leak Help

Picture attached of my rudder post. It is weeping/leaking a small amount of water. 1984 Mainship 34. Is there a rubber O ring seal or is it packing as in the cutlass bearing? My first option here is just to tighten up the seal. I assume I would hold back on A and unscrew B, then tighten down on...

    Fuel Right Diesel Tank Treament

Ran across this stuff and considering trying it out in my two 35 year old aluminium fuel tanks.... have not had any problems fuel wise so far, but I'm sure there is crap sitting on the bottom after all these years. Anyone ACTUALLY USED this additive and what did you find? Fuel Right

    Fuel tank selection

I know this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find the thread. Mainship 34 has 2 110 fuel tanks one port one starboard. Alternating between them requires lifting the floor panels to change tanks and return line. Not the most fun in using the boat. Has anyone opened both fuel tank...

    Trim tab Question

Bought a '84 34 Mainship recently and am very pleased with it. It has fairly large trim tabs which I have not had the opportunity to try out yet. The controls for the trim tabs on the flybridge are rocker switches with "BOW DOWN" when pushing the rocker forward, and nothing written when...

Anyone ever line the underside of the salon floor with sound proofing? If so what did you use and was it effective? Any heat issues with the sound proofing?

    Fuel Filter Followup

Attached picture is my primary fuel filter. Want to add a vacuum gauge to the system.... This filter has ONE inlet (#2 in the pic) and 2 outlets (#1 and #3) #3 goes to the engine, #1 has a plug in it. If I add the vacuum gauge to #1, which would be most convenient, would that work to show...

    Fuel Filter Question

O.K, let's say your tooling along and your fuel filter gets clogged. Engine stops. So you change the filter, fill it up with diesel before screwing it back on. Doesn't the engine suck all the fuel out of the feed line before it stops running? So after replacing the fuel filter will the engine...

How to check for deck soft spots

About to drop the hammer on a 1984 Mainship 34. After reading many posts, due have some concern about soft spots in cockpit and deck. I will check on the "smile" of the sliding glass door, but is there anyway to check the rest of the decks for soft spots... i.e if the core is saturated can one...
