    Easy new marina office

The old #9 house! We saw it leave and are pretty sure we saw it in its new location while cruising down the Sound one day. Dave

    Underway Today

Hope you are tied up tight for the blow headed your way. It's sustained 25 here and heading to sustained 40 tomorrow. Just noticed you already have 35. Dave

    Qsb 5.9 coolant change

Hint... take a picture with your phone before removing the belt. I have one in case the belt ever breaks so I spend less time staring at the pulleys thinking how I wished I had a picture. IMHO 200 hours on a 2011 is pretty early for a belt and/or coolant change. W/O checking the manual 600...

    Cape Cod to Florida

Glad you had a nice run to AC. I always find it entertaining to pass along the coast there. The rest is nothing but houses or beach. Dave

    ICW- Your Best Tips

I thought those boats looked familiar. That's the same slip where we spent last Christmas. Dave

    Cape Cod to Florida

You going outside or down the Sound? There calling for rain here on the Cape and Islands for tomorrow, but doesn't seem like it'll be windy. Safe trip. Dave

    One Pound Propane Bottles

Exactly how deep under water does your grill work? Dave

    Florida Anchoring limits heating up

Yikes. Our very nice mooring field in Nantucket Harbor does tend to keep out the derelicts... but at ~ $70/night for a 50' boat it isn't hard to imagine why! $15 bucks... what a bargain! Dave

Defever 49 for $95K - Sign of the times?

Love the Chambers Brothers. Thanks for the memories. Dave

Defever 49 for $95K - Sign of the times?

Well at least it didn't thoroughly depress the Defever market for too long! Hopefully it will recover. :socool: Dave

    Working while boating

We cruised the ICW last winter with me working full time taking long weekends as we cruised and then hanging in port for a few days. Spent the winter in Florida working from the boat. I am in the same situation, give me an Internet connection and I can write computer code. I tried relying on...

    Winter Preparation

Until this past winter I would have thought you didn't need to worry, but after departing Georgia this past winter heading south leaving docks frozen and with broken water pipes, I would have concerns. Unless you have a sealed system there is no need to drain, just flush the anti-freeze through...

Wiring 4 six volts to = 12 volts

If the OP is unable to follow diagram #3 then the OP probably would have trouble turning on the key to start his engine. :socool: Maybe we ought to give him a little credit for a) asking to confirm his plan and receiving that excellent link from MurrayM and Trojan; and b) for realizing that...

    AIS and MMSI question

I like it for the safety function. I trained my wife that if anything happened to me she is to go to the radio, flip up the cover over the red button and press it and count to 10 then let go. It broadcasts our lat/lon and MMSI info. Dave

    Aaaargh!

Maybe after installing the valves on the fuel sight tubes they refueled using the water fill instead of the fuel fill. The fuel would float on the water and end up in the top of the water sight tubes. Dave

    AIS and MMSI question

See: http://transition.fcc.gov/Forms/Form605/605.pdf for MMSI (hint: use ctrl-f and search for MMSI) and FCC: Wireless Services: Ship Radio Stations: Licensing for licensing. Dave

 wow ... Talk about a low threshold... Dave

What would make you walk after survey?

Well in all fairness the survey and the first visit by the OP did bring to light a number of issues he didn't expect after flying 3000 miles. Genset failure. AC failure. Some breaker tripping. Failed WOT test. Questionable repairs one using silicone in the completely wrong application. Easy to...

What would make you walk after survey?

I agree. There are definitely times I think I would enjoy less boat and less systems. It's why boats come in different sizes! Dave

    Antifouling Paint

I use their Ultima SR-40 Ablative and it works great including being out of the water for a couple of months last fall then back in to cruise to Florida for the winter. I use their Barnacle Barrier zinc spray on all underwater metal. Bottom and metal came out looking exceptional. Dave

What would make you walk after survey?

The OP posted a series of shots back on page one. I think the last one was the thru hull. Dave

What would make you walk after survey?

Looking online I did see a number in the PNW. Seems like shipping would be a bit less than from FL to CA but it got me wondering about standard equipment. I guess the OP might need AC if in SoCal, but do the PNW boats typically come with AC or diesel heat. I guess a heat pump would be ideal as...

What would make you walk after survey?

If all of the repairs look like the sealing job on that through-hull I would be running away. I wonder how much moisture is absorbed into the hull around that fitting. Dave

This is sad DUI case on the water.

Well it's been said that you can't regulate stupid so you have to wonder what effect the laws have in a case like this. Federal or state. Dave
