KROON Locks can often closely match the old Legge products. Their response to phone inquiries has been excellent.

    Collapsed motor mount?

Presume that is a Lehman. Suggest paying attention to the bolts from the mount attaching to the engine/tranny. I had a case where they all sheared because the hardness rating for those bolts was well under spec. There should be a number on the head of the bolt.

    GB - Ventilation

What model and size? If you have the Lumar(sp?) forward hatch, it usually has 2 locking positions; closed completely and open about 1/4 - 1/2" on 3 sides. It will not leak in the 2nd position and because none of the doors (or aft cabin hatch doors in a Classic) are anywhere near tight, you have...

    Shipyard Drama - Advice Appreciated

I might know the yard you are referring to and if so, have had the same experience for years while doing business there. Always the same. What you described, including the no notice, seems to be their widely known reputation. I believe their success at it results from most people just paying the...

    EB47 transom shower faucets?

I'll put my money on the notion they are Grohe. That said, this is a common issue with GB's in freezing latitudes. Many of us have had to deal with same because that system does not drain unless the entire boat system is drained completely and valves are left open during freezing conditions...

20mm nylon snubber failure - well not quite.

SIMI: We switched from the clear PVC chafe guard to the wire-reinforced version and saw a huge improvement in protection. (9/16 size on 55,000 lbs with chain slotted SS plate) Also noted previously the heat from friction was with the PVC movement against the hawse hole surface and not so much...

    Would like bridle suggestions

My vote is for the 3 strand (some stretch) and always with thimbles and two lines. Simple as that. My splices are uggggly, so had them made up by those who know better. For 50ft LOA, 55K, made 2 bridles: 1 at 10 ft for "normal times" with 9/16" and used wire reinforced hose in the chocks for...

    Air entering raw water strainer.

FWIW: Had this on 2 GB's, 42 & 46, off and on. All temps stayed within normal, measured with IR. Impellers changed every 500 hours, showed no abnormal symptoms or wear and often went in the box as spares. Had no resultant issues while air was evident, occasionally. Took no special steps to chase it.

Slowgoesit: I would say that you were VERY Lucky. All should beware of anchoring in Ocean Falls. If you have the chance, see the aerial pictures of the log rafting over the many years the plant was operating (shown in the books). The place was stuffed to maximum capacity more often than not...

Ford Lehman 120 Stainless Steel Exhaust Elbow

SS will develop pinholes as a result of saltwater, heating and/or pressure, when occurring simultaneously. (The Navy found this problem in some of their newer filtration systems.) But no "chunky" failures like that of CI from corrosion.

    Sub sighting!

Seamanship?? Is no one perfect? A friend was a nuke power plant engineer during his tour and his skipper, a Canoe U. grad, managed to run the ex-boomer hard aground while disciplining his Nav officer about a neat and tidy plotting desk. Same skipper, while departing Pearl, forgot to pull...

    New Canadian tax on boats

I was in a "luxury" industry at one time. I have seen three episodes of this type of taxing in my business life; all three with the same results. What folks don't realize is the unintended consequences that hit the middle class ("non-luxury" folks) right between the eyes: unemployment in the...

    Fresh Water Filtration

After the pump, 10 micron Nominal sediment pre-filter; then .35 mic or 1.0 mic Absolute filter for removal of bad stuff. 10 inch Single filter housings are adequate will give plenty of run time. Filter cartridges and housings are very reasonable in price. If desired, follow up with a 5 mic...

Tying to shore in a tiny bay

I might try a different choice before selecting your spot. There is an island across the way and I would first look at the possibility of setting well a bow anchor between the island and the mainland (north opening), plus fore and aft floating poly lines ashore, both sides, with chafe...

    Otters

Had a friend on vacation with 2 teenaged daughters that were swimming at the opening of small, dead end cove. Two river otters from the head end attacked them both, causing serious injuries requiring numerous stitches. He described it as a huge and messy event. It was a bad memory and they have...
