When it is time to cut the anchor chain

Don't Cut I think it is prudent to have a plan to ditch the anchor. My plan is to have the bitter end of the anchor chain tied to an eye bolt inside the anchor locker using a floating line. The floating line is longer than the depth of water that I have ever anchored in. In the very unlikely...

Anchored and prop keeps turning in current.

Shafts turning in current. My previous DeFever had ZF transmissions and the manual states that free willing is ok. In a deep hull boat at less than planing speed the water pressure will keep the shaft seal lubricated and cool. We used to run offshore passages on one engine quite often without...

    Crane Failure with dinghy suspended....?

Crain Failure Dingy crane failure was one of my concerns also. I was afraid it would fail when conditions were bad. My dingy only weighed about 500lbs. I used a 6 purchase block and tackle sailboat boom vang and 3/8 rope. I practiced raising and lowering the dingy and it was all I could handle...

    Sewage Dischare Issue

Pay attention to left hand threads I have seen several of boats with this pump that had turned on the pump before opening the sea cock. This caused a very high pressure on the outlet side of the pump and caused the duck bill valve to invert. The solution is to turn the valve back right side...

    Accumulator for Hot Water System

Put a 1 gal. expansion tank anywhere in the a cold line. It doesn't need to be near the water heater. look at the fittings in the cold supply line to the water heater and make sure you don't have a check valve in the supply. If you have a check valve remove it and with the expansion tank in the...

Change electric stove, install gas stove

Reconsider Gas Stove When I bought my last boat one of the first things on my list of things to do was to convert the stove to gas. I bought the boat in the Panhandle of Florida and by the time I got home (Morehead City) with the boat I realized that I needed to run the generator some each day...

    Hurricane Isaias, Southport marina damage

Southport Marina The Southport Marina was a very well built. You will have a hard time building a dock that is able to stand up to a direct hurricane hit. I own a slip at the Morehead Yacht Basin. Our docks were built by the same company that built the Southport Marina docks. After hurricane...

Shopping for a new dinghy and outboard. What would you get?

New Dingy For me that's an easy choice. 10' AB aluminum and 15 hp Yamaha with electric start. The 10' AB is the driest dingy of that size that I have ridden in. I like the electric start Yamaha easy and reliable. And while you are at it put a bilge pump in it. Shay

    Oven microwave/cooktop on inverter circuit

Inverter Loads We had the Magnum 2812 inverter in our last boat, it was also powered by a 1245 AH house bank. If you have very robust 12v electrical circuits there will be no problem running either the microwave or the cook top. Elizabeth has baked brownies in the electric oven using the...

Starting Battery Size (Ford Lehman 120)

Single start battery My previous Defever 49 came with 2 8D batteries on each Perkins 130 engine and a 5th 8D to start the 12.5kw generator. I rewired the boat so I had a dedicated house bank and 1 group 31 Duracell AGM start battery from Sam. The single start battery started both Perkins and...

    AGM Batteries

FullRiver 8L16 have worked well 7.5 years ago I installed 6 FullRiver 8L16 AGM batteries. They are used as both the house power and inverter bank. These batteries are still going strong. This past summer after fully charging I removed the jumpers from the 6V pairs and let them rest for 24 hrs...

    Escape For Sale

I really wish I could. We need to spend time on shore and I can't stand the thoughts of not being able to take care of her. There are a lot of boats to pick from and not everyone needs a Defever CPMY. When you get ready for a boat you need to understand how you will be using it, then buy the...

    Accumulator tank question?

I don't see any reason to think hot water will flow out of the water heater backwards and down stream to the accumulator it the accumulator is mounted in a cold line down stream of the water heater. I think the accumulator will work just fine mounted anywhere in the cold circuit. Shay :banghead:

    Power setting the anchor

Brian, every thing sounds ok except I would use the snubber while setting the anchor. I don't want that much load on the windless. Shay
