I have a GB 42 with twin Cat 3116s. I shut them down six days ago with no signs of trouble. I went to start the port motor today and nothing but a loud “click” from the double solenoids. Batteries are fully charged, Starboard motor started fine. I verified it’s not the neutral switch...
We have a 1200 BTU in the forward cabin and a vent is run to the head just above the sink and to the right. The unit is under the V Birth. We have a '93 42 Classic
My question was simply if someone had a non caterpillar brand that has worked well. I also have an account with Caterpillar and do currently use OEM parts, but while cruising it is hard to always hard to get a Cat dealer and with shipping the impellers end up being about $100 each. I was just...
Does anyone have a source for “good” aftermarket impellers? Specifically I am looking for Cat part number #7E 0321. I believe this is the Sherwood 17000K impeller. There are several less expensive options online but this not a part I’d want failing unexpectedly. Just wondering if others have...
Just following up, I did have a clogged line from the starboard tank and supply manifold. I’m not sure why this affected the return, but everything seems to be working correctly after a three hour test run this weekend.
As suggested, the starboard supply line between the tank and manifold was blocked. This has been corrected. Vents were not blocked. Would this explain all of the return only going to the starboard tank? I guess we will go for a short test run to find out.
My 1993 42 Classic has started to return all of the unused fuel only to the Starboard side tank. I believe that is what is happening. After running several hours the starboard tank is full and the port tank is significantly lower. Previously they would drop at the same rate. After sitting...
Thank you for the reply. By reacting stronger, the starboard engine produces noticeably more thrust when put into gear. The motors sound “normal” and shifting seems normal as well. I haven’t verified the tacks, but that is a good point on the difference between low and high rpm. The...
My starboard side reacts much stronger when it is put in gear than the port side. Forward and reverse. Props were just tuned in March so I don’t think it is related to anything under the water. At speed there doesn’t seem to be an issue. Assuming the tachs are calibrated I’m thinking the issue...
Yes, I purchased a remanufactured 3116 to replace the old one. I tried to keep everything the same as the original. If you want more details let me now
The crane boom came through the side windows to move and pull the motor out the door. Here are a couple of pictures. We didn’t get a lot of pics of the crane since when it was there the yard was charging by the hour $$$$$
Yes, we pulled the trans first so we could move the motor back before going up. It probably wasn’t necessary to do so. We put the new motor and trans together before we lowered them back in.
We recently had to replace one of the Cat 3116 motors in our 42 classic. When researching how to do this I did not find much information so I thought I would post a couple of photos of how we did it. I'm not an expert but the job got done and we are cruising now. We decided to take...
Hello, I know this should be an easy question but I haven't been able to find the answer. Are the threads for the prop bolts standard threads or is the starboard side reversed threaded? Thanks
Hello, we recently replaced our Grunert refrigerator system and have some of the old parts listed in the classifieds if anyone needs anything.

We replaced our old Grunert refrigerator system and have some of the old parts. This is from a GB 42 Classic. The fridge plate got a leak which is why we replaced it, all other parts we were working on 12/15/22. Price does not include shipping.
