Superyacht: Licence to fill (with water...)

If the insurance papers get too close to the GPS it can throw it off badly.

    Question For You Bourbon Drinkers

Due to the COVID I bought a handle of Ezra Brooks 90 single barrel. It's 20 bucks a handle. Thought it would be terrible but it was for the hunting club meeting. Dang good for a lower shelf bourbon. It's my go-to now. Real glass bottle, cork stopper, and good taste.

    Will this Replace Flares?

I carry both flares and the new strobes (and the required orange flag which I don't really understand). The flares because I always have had flares. The strobe to make sure I'm legal. The EPIRB, PLB, handheld VHF, redundant mounted VHFs, cell booster..... to make sure I get found.

Buy a car from a vending machine?

I bought a car from Carvana a few months ago. Didn't have time to fudge around with dealers, salesmen, etc. Tried the internet way and have to say, I'm a fan. I knew what I wanted (Honda pilot). Went shopping at 2 dealerships and did the dance. Drove a couple of pilots and liked them. But...

    Stabilizers?

If you have never experienced the Seakeeper gyro stabilization it is worth it to visit the demo boat at your favorite boat show. The demo boat we saw was a Contender center console. They put 3 of us on each side of the boat, gripping the t-top and standing on the gunwales. The guy said...

    KVH issues

Having been in the tech biz for many years, I've had many "out of box" failures of new components. We used to "Burn in" pcs and servers for 72 hours before putting them in production. The failure rate was low, but it did happen. Hope KVH gets you going quickly, still waiting on ours to...

    KVH issues

Had a TV1 since 2016. A bit after the warrenty expired (of course) it quick working, middle light blinking red. Code of 100 - no power to antenna. KVH support recommended I take it to a local dealer for bench testing. Came back bad motherboard. 1,200 to replace the board or 950 plus...

You Get What You Pay For

Reminds me of a guy wrapping dock pilings in our neighborhood. Charged 100 bucks or so per piling. But he only wrapped the top part. Not all the way to the sea floor. And you are supposed to pressure-wash a few inches below the sea floor. I have wrapped our pilings correctly, and when I...

So What Boat Stuff Did You Get For Christmas?

Got a new Garmin 1042 for the go-fast fishing boat. Side-scan is bad ass. Had a porpoise in our wake and I could see the shape of a porpoise. Fin, tail... heck I think it was a male porpoise! Neat stuff, can't wait to fish it. Also got a new double captain's seat and the genny fixed.

Why does my boat swing so much at anchor?

What about a sea anchor off the stern. If you have any tide running it should help with the swing. Maybe would dampen it a bit. I use one when drift fishing to keep the bow into the current, seems to stabilize the boat.

This is disturbing! (new Cutwater boat)

You always insure the vehicle/vessel. Always. That way your fault, their fault, nobody's fault, you get some coverage.

    Pimp my ride (Inflatable)

The VHF choice is a good one. Now you have a backup if your big boat VHFs take a dump. Do what makes you happy. P*ss on the naysayers.

Fisheries Supply Dehumidifier Sale on Now

Our boat stays dry (lift or trailer) when not in use. So running AC isn't an option. Just got an Evadry and installed just yesterday. Have a fan to move air and the dehumidifier in the galley sink with hole drilled. Will be back down in 3 weeks to check the results.
