    Boat Insurance in Canada

I am looking at alternative so that question to my fellow Canadians, who is your insurer and are you happy with it? Thank you for your input. Aviva for me and well under 1000.00. I don't know how they would handle a claim since I never had one ..... Someone in the biz. told me that a slick...

    Price match revised

Internet pricing & shopping was the best thing that could have happened in our industry / fraternity ....so WM can keep on screwing you until someone brings the " price match " to their attention ... and then they will match it ... LOL That's absurd ! They should beat it by at least 10% or...

    12 volt hot water

Thermostat does not care if it's 12 / 120 or 240 Volts It's just a switch. At 12 V and if you want to maintain the wattage of the element, the wire size will need to be substantially upgraded ( 10 X in my opinion ) Is it worth it ? Maybe run through an inverter as was said elsewhere, maybe...

    Proper Radio Channel Usage

In our area, Marinas are on 68, Bridges on 13 and so on ... I have never been able to get a Marina on 16. I don't think 16 should be used for that purpose (?) fb

Cetol - Does it lift or peel??

I don't mind putting a coat of something on the teak each year, but I don't want to have to strip ever again. My question is, is Cetol a product that will lift at the seams like varnish? How long will it last if I maintain it with the annual coat? Cetol ? Stay away from this stuff ...

    Bilge pump and alarm circuit

The concept is sound, unfortunately some relays have to stay energized hence the drain. I had similar set up on previous boat, I installed small dedicated Bilge Pump Panel and replaced the whole ( relay ) thing by drawing from both banks via 2 @ Schottky Diodes. ( low forward voltage drop as...

    New VHF Problem

Agree with all ......... I can see power being an issue for a longer distance but as the OP says, a few yards ..... ?? and esp. if a handheld gets through. Be curious to know how much of a voltage drop there is at the radio during transmission.

    Disputing Marina Fees

I feel your pain ... and good luck with that ! I had a leaking Trim Tab Hyd. Cylinder, I told my marina to just go and replace it. They sent me a separate bill for $ 100.00 just to look at it so they could order the new one. The actual replacement was extra .... LOL Either way, they got us...

    " Like " Button

It would be nice if there was a " Like " button at each post. ( if there is one, I have yet to find it ) It may help someone looking for info as it would reflect / validate how many agree with a suggestion / comment or response to the original post. I really don't care about racking up my...

What is the best inflatable tender

You may be right ..?.. all I can say is that I had Two ! The 2 nd. came with...

    Broker experiences?

Having bought and sold a few times using a broker and again privately, I have no respect, trust or anything good to say about a boat broker, agent or sales person. Like used car sales, appears that the marine industry attracts the " lowest of the low " in character or integrity by brokers...

Make offer on 2 boats simultaneously?

In the marine buying / selling, everything is acceptable ....... :) Depending on how desperate the seller is ( many are btw. ) and if I was a seller ( and I have been ) and saw an offer with trumped up ridiculous conditions, I would not even reply and if I did, I would insert; " go play with...

    New A/C for next year

Thanks ... I know 16K is marginal at best. There is physically NO room to install more than one. The main issue in my mind would be that some marinas may not have more than 30 Amps AC at the dock and this would be the largest I can go with a single supply and still have power left for my charger...

    New A/C for next year

After this brutal hot summer in Ontario, we have decided to install A.C. in our boat for next year. I intend to remove our diesel heater and install a Heat Pump unit in it's place. I hope to re use the present duct work @ 3" with maybe some mods. at the A.C. discharge. The Boat: 40' Trawler...
