Question about flying the US flag

Why is it that American tourists feel they have to indentify themselves as American , while in another country ? Removing the Dutch flag from the boat you have just rented seems very odd to me . Not that anyone in Friesland will mind .You will have a great time in a very rural area where the...

    Steel boat questions

Interesting , when we looked for a Dutch boat 3 years ago we considered Linssen quite expensive compared to many other smaller Dutch boat builders . We visited the factory and had a very impressive tour , everything is built and designed in house . The people we met were very helpfull . Most...

Stabicraft? Anyone have one, or have experience with them?

Stabicraft is a very popular brand here in Kiwi land. They are made in the very Southermost town of the South Island called Invercargill, since 1987. Very popular with fishermen in coastal waters. As Bill has already pointed out their smallest model starts at 14 “ and weighs 500 lbs Recommended...

    Dutch Mermaid down under

Hi Bill. What a coincidence. Our kotters must have passed each other in the middle of the Atlantic. As we had not seen our boat in the flesh before arrival, our biggest challenge was to familiarise ourselves with the systems quickly. The man on the freighter was happy to hold the lines for 15...

    Dutch Mermaid down under

Hugues, thanks for your nice comments. Vripack is indeed one of the largest and most innovative design studios in Holland. They have done some amazing superyachts, but ours is a traditional design done by Dick Boon, the founder of Vripack. I think he is now retired. We love the abundance of...

Having enjoyed your discussions for about a year, I thought I might post something about ourselves, even though we probably don't have "a trawler". We live in Havelock in the Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand, and are sort of part-time liveaboards in the summer. Our boat is a Dutch steel...
