Anyone in the San Francisco- Bodega Bay Area Advice Please

Renting a car is a good choice. I've visited Astoria, Tillamook, Crescent City, ... all while awaiting fairer weather. Have a great cruise....

Questionable billing policy at Juneau Harbors

Wrangell was pretty much the opposite of Juneau 10 days ago. Tied up in the newer transient dock at 10am. Walked to the Forrest Service Office and picked up Anan Bay tickets. Had coffee in town. Walked to see the beach. Re-provsioned at the market and left at 3:30PM. Asked the dock person how...

Travelling from Victoria BC to Cabo San Lucas

Here's some info regarding the Offshore 54. In 2008 I crewed on a friend's 1999 Offshore 54 from Anacortes to Marina del Rey, CA. We left in early September. Our cruising speed was between 10 and 11 knots. The boat had active stabilizers which keep the boat flat as the seas built, and the...

Starlink standard versus Roam / RV

We did not upgrade to the Mobile Priority plan. Once within territorial waters at Kayak Island, Roam did connect OK. In an emergency, I would hope the upgrade to MP plan would be rapid! That's something to think about.

Starlink standard versus Roam / RV

Starlink lets us know when we are "in the ocean" and outside our service plan as follows: "UNEXPECTED LOCATION Service is currently disabled in the ocean. Move your Starlink to land or update your service plan to connect." We received this message last week in the Gulf of Alaska on the 145 nm...

Starlink RV is now Starlink Roam

Interesting: Our speed was between 8.0 and 9.5. Didn't record the speed related to no connection. We will focus on that as we proceed up the IP to AK Alex on Wild Blue

Starlink RV is now Starlink Roam

Starlink Roam Report: With the rectangular "low" performance antenna, online was spotty from Ventura to Anacortes on the Pacific Coast. Now that we're on the Inside Passage to Alaska, Starlink is live most of the time while underway at 8 knots. Rounded Cape caution today with excellent...

Starlink RV is now Starlink Roam

Tom, Steve, Sababa: Our distance offshore varied from a mile or two around points, to as much as 32 miles off the Columbia River. I couldn't correlate the connection to the distance offshore. It seemed when we power reset the unit, wherever we were, it would connect for 10 minutes or so then...

Starlink RV is now Starlink Roam

Our Starlink operational experience has changed from last year. We purchased and installed Starlink RV on the boat in May of 2022. After a short learning curve, the unit was operational pretty much 24/7 aboard the boat while in Port or underway. We cruised from Anacortes, through WA, BC...

    Selene 53

We had Selene 53029 built and delivered in 2005. By that time, the 53s were being built with the QSL9 engine. We put 5500 hours on that boat cruising Alaska to Mexico over the years and sold it in 2018. That engine had a failed temp sensor and raw water pump that we replaced. Those were the...

    LFP for thruster and inverter?

We run the stern thruster off the LFP Bank without issues. We run the bow thruster off the original two AGMs in the bow area. We built the LFP bank in the lazarette area near the stern thruster. It seemed redundant to have 400+ lbs for 2 AGM batteries so near the LFP bank. We cabled the...
