    "Batwing" stabilisator

Batwing stabilisers are used in Queensland more commonly than here (NSW). I had read the paper linked to by @DDW. I built the paravane stabilisers on our last boat ("Adventures of Anika J"). I would definitely go with batwing stabilisers the next time—they are much safer to deploy and retrieve...

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

And not a single image of ER (you'd think they'd want to show off the new engine, and show how well the stabilisers were mounted). Still called the "Peta Emma", too.

    Aging

@Nick14: you can't eat money, any more than the cost of a meal, anyway. That often quoted saying (allegedly Elmore Leonard's) is perfect here: “I spent most of my dough on booze, broads and boats and the rest I wasted."

    Aging

I'm 71, and I structure part of my morning life around exercise: bodyweight strength training (I call this "playing") at the local waterfront park, which has a chin-up bar and a set of parallel bars. This is all one needs. And I do my stretching on the grass, or the back deck of the boat. I...

2002 Cherubini Independence 45, Fort Myers, FL $350K

A sad moment, but a VERY fast sale. A sensible buyer. I am jealous! Congratulations, Ted.

Slow Hand – End of the line

It's my birthday today; apparently I have seen 71 summers. Like you, I single-hand my boat most of the time. I salute you, Ted, for having the awareness to recognise when physical strength and coordination are waning, and choosing to leave the cruising life at the top of your game. If...

2002 Cherubini Independence 45, Fort Myers, FL $350K

Ted, I would buy your boat today if I did not live in Australia. Only people who have followed your posts over the years would understand how much you know about boats, and the images of the ER, especially, show this. Best wishes with the sale. 6,000 hours is nothing on a properly maintained and...

    Interesting boats

And (still talking about the same vessel), from the ad: The housekeeping looks pretty good from here!

    Interesting boats

RTF: that is my go-to principle for boat ads, too: If no ER images, no battery bank images, and no wiring images, then delete. I always ask for underwater shape/running gear images, too, if I am interested. But others here have a different take on this, to the effect that some ads (at least)...

    Interesting boats

I had to look up "FSBO advert", and you're right I suspect. And as for enjoying new fields of boating... what makes you say that? :))) I will look at that one again and get back to you. And passing between the engines is essential for me.

PNW to Mexico, Panama Canal, and Florida, on our way at last!

Scot, Your report above needs to be pinned by the moderators, I feel, or made a separate thread and pinned—it is the best risk assessment process description I have read, ever. The back story is that I often drive a Marine Rescue vessel here, when I am on a shift, and most rescues are done...

PNW to Mexico, Panama Canal, and Florida, on our way at last!

That marina report cracked me up: "a new pool opening in two weeks..." Yeah, sure. But this happens in the first world, too. The Shellharbour Marina promised shore facilities for two years; the first builder went broke, and the second one took an additional 18 months to finish the job. . A...

    Interesting boats

@BruceK (re. the blue Masters 51 you referenced above, https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats/masters-51-yacht-fisher/308520/): That boat caught my eye, too—that would make a lovely live-aboard for us, with the separated cabins. But at 35l/h engine and genny consumption...

7.5kn average is fast! Can you remind us all of the engine of Muirgen? Best wishes from the other side of the world!
