    Binoculars

Time to get some dedicated boat binoculars. *Any recommendations? How useful (and how often useful) is an integrated compass? * JC

The Furuno rep laughed at me

An update: It hasn't been great boating weather, but I did get to the boat last week and deleted all tracks again. I also changed the color of all the depth contour lines. It appears that 2 or maybe all 3 of the three automatic lines (less than 10', etc) were being drawn in the same color...

The Furuno rep laughed at me

Both the furuno dealer and their tech support guy have said that the chip does not store any data. The chip was brand new, right out of the sealed pack. It was an older version and had to be backordered. The first pic with max zoom for some reason doesn't show my marina, even tho it shows up...

The Furuno rep laughed at me

4 images, all one level of zoom out from the previous.* my boat has never been off the main grouping of track, and has only been out MAYBE 5 times since I cleared the memory.* Something is going on, and its not ghosts or my boat.

The Furuno rep laughed at me

In a good natured way. We purchased our Albin 28 just a few months ago. It came with a 10 year old Furuno 1650 Chartplotter. After getting the boat out here, the local Furuno dealer was nice enough to come to the boat and spend an hour with me, teaching me how to work all the electronics...

My Albin, tell us about yours

Tara's HIN Actually, for you geeks out there, here is a complete explanation (as I understand it): AUL = Albin 43 = Model 245 = 145th built - Albin always started production with hull 101 h = Month Hull molded - August (h is 8th letter in alphabet) 7 = Year Hull molded - 1987 88 = 1988 Model...

My Albin, tell us about yours

We are the new owners of a 28' Albin TE.* Its a 2001, hull number 537, 700 hrs on her 300hp Yanmar diesel.* Currently trying to get her from MD to SF Bay in the dead of winter!

My Albin, tell us about yours

You are hull # 245.* The number/letters after that deal with the model year, and the month and year of production.

Mainship Pilot 30 vs Albin 28

An update...and thanks After what has seemed like a long process, we are the new owners of a 2001 Albin 28. It is a Gatsby edition, so its a little more set up as a picnic boat than for fishing, with a back bench and a cushion for the engine box to provide seating in the cockpit. The larger...

    Gatsby

    Thanks, I just did! JC

    Gatsby

Any opinions/experinece with the Gatsby model of the Albin 28?* The admiral likes all the little touches, but is anything mechanically different from the standard model?* The transom seat looks useful, given we are not fishermen. Thanks, JC

Mainship Pilot 30 vs Albin 28

I realize that my posts on here seem all over the map, but here is a new question.* While I am drawn to the whole trawler idea/lifestyle, it looks like for our first boat at least, speed is going to be an issue.* This is due to the fact that we would like the boat close to home and there is a...

    round-trip costs, etc

In an earlier post, one piece of rookie advice to me was to minimixe my "round-trip" costs on my first boat.* This sounds like a noble goal, but which of these 2 scenarios has the best chance of mininmizing my round trip costs?: 1. we buy a nice older larger trawler...not super fancy, but well...

    Total rookie

OK, here is where we are: 1. I am enrolling in a Power Station class (thanks, Eric). 2. Boat show was fun, but small.* It did highlight the appeal of a tug. 3. Trailing is NOT a big concern...in fact no concern at all. 4. The tugs do seem expensive...is this just supply/demand, or is something...

What does everybody think of the Ranger Tugs? Too small to be comfy?** (They have scored very high on the "charm" factor).* How about the older Nordic 26s?
