    Northwest Explorations?

Very good experience with them over the last few years. Bought a bought through them, kept it in Sidney with them and then sold it in Bellingham through them. They made it all work despite the Covid border closure.

dead batterys caused sea fire to shut down

Most inverters have an option to select a "charge" only mode vs "full on" (inverting and charging). When you leave a boat or RV for several days it is important to leave your inverter(s) in charge only mode. When the power fails the inverter will not draw down your batteries. In your case, the...

    Steel hull repair

Does your boat have an isolation transformer? The hull looks like it may have been subject to stray current corrosion caused by other boats in the marina.

    MMSI Update

Here is how to update your AIS info (from a previous post): I finally got around to changing the boat name on the AIS transponder. It took only 30 seconds. I used the application "ProAIS2" and connected the laptop to the USB cable from the AIS transponder (Comnav X2). ProAIS2 install loads the...

    Paravane stabilisers actual loads.

The Navier Stokes fluid dynamics partial differential equations would be the appropriate way to compute the force on the fish. They are notoriously difficult to solve. One might get a useful approximation by using Newton's F=M*a. Estimate the mass of the water column above the fish that is...

    Buy Now???

Go ahead if a 30% decline in value while paying 10% cost of boat yearly upkeep does not bother you. Alternatively, wait two years and pay less while having more choice of boats. In the meantime, charter.

    Solar Panel Fires

The issue is most likely caused by the roof-mounted micro-inverters for each panel/zone and associated wiring. All it takes is a loose connection. Just like a shore power cable. Micro-inverters are more efficient but also more failure prone. For instance, with 100 panels and 100 microinverters...

Genset slow loss of oil pressure and shutdown

Another thing to check is oil temperature. High oil temperature will produce low oil pressure.

    GB 42 Classic, ~1999

Hulls are typically bullet proof. Condition of teak decks, railing and window frames are important. You'll spend lots of time and/or money if these have been neglected. Diesel tank installation / corrosion were improved by 1999 but still good to check tanks for leaks both top and bottom.

Crane SS cable fail with dinghy 15 feet up

When I bought our last boat, the cable on the davit was all messed up. There were kinks and loops under the first very uneven layer of cable. I don't understand how the previous owner was able to use the davit. It took me 4 hours with a grinder to cut away the old cable. Installed the new SS...

    GB Europa 52 Bilge Questions

Another potential entry point for the water is the lazarette hatch itself. In our boat, water could collect in the rim of the hatch. There were two small drains but they frequently plugged up. Best way to clean the drains is with a large zip tie.

    GB Europa 52 Bilge Questions

We owned a 52' GB Europa (1998). Our setup had only two bilge areas (engine, master). The lazarette drained into the engine room but there were a couple of spots where fluids from the lazarette area would collect. It would show up every couple of weeks or so. The water had a brown appearance as...

Using 220v single phase water heater on 240v 2-hot wires

Replacing the 220V element with the 110V element will double the current. Make sure your wiring is sized appropriately.

Using 220v single phase water heater on 240v 2-hot wires

The US L1/L2 leads will provide 240V. However, I'd expect the European 220V device to be grounded. That is, you'll end up with either L1 or L2 on the metal parts of the device. This is not safe. At a minimum, you'd have to remove the ground connection in the device. Not ideal but better than...

    Reviving a comatose Lehman

You may have an injector pump problem. First, check oil level in injector pump. Oil should be changed every 50 hours. Yours is probably way overdue. Your governor may also need to be tuned. Get the shop manual. Search for youtube videos on what to do.
