    Monk 42

We've owned a Monk 42 for seven years and completed America's Great Loop with ours. We love everything about her except the lack of an outdoor visiting area. We love the teak interior and the teak and holly floors. We normally wouldn't have a down galley, but the one on the Monk has so much...

    Looking for boat PNW

We are moored in Olympia, Washington. And there was a typo in my original reply - the engines are Cummins 5.9L (6BT5.9M), not 8.9L.

    Looking for boat PNW

We will be putting our boat on the market in probably February, 2024. Not sure what ther parameters are that you're looking for. Our boat is a 1987 Monk 42 trawler with twin Cummins 8.9L engines. I believe she'll be listed for $90,000. We have lived aboard her for seven years and completed...

    monk 42

My 1987 Monk 42 with twin Cummins 6BT engines and an 8 kw generator has been measured twice on a travel lift as about 30k lbs. As noted before, the accuracy of travel lift weights is very questionable.

    Visiting the PNW by land

Pleasant Harbor Marina has some houseboats in the marina they rent. It's on the Hood Canal and is certainly not in a city. Not sure how they advertise those - possibly through AirBNB?

Shipping 40’ trawler from east to west coast

United Yacht Transport We shipped our 42' trawler from Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) to Victoria, BC in April, 2018. Cost was $30,750. They kept us informed at each step of the process, gave us good instructions for prepping the boat, dropping it off, and picking it up. It was a good...

    Marinas/Slips with no waitlist?

When we needed a live aboard slip a couple of years ago, we found a very nice marina with no wait list at Pleasant Harbor Marina (https://www.pleasantharbormarina.com/) on the Hood Canal.

Blind Fasteners for Rail Stanchion Bases

Blind Rivet Nuts I used stainless steel blind rivet nuts for a project that required mounting something on a surface that I didn't have access to the reverse side. I found that installing the blind rivet nuts was much easier with a pneumatic drill (which I had to borrow), rather than an...

    Maine Electricians in Port Townsend

Looking for a good marine electrician in Port Townsend. I need to have my very old battery charger replaced, and have my battery system examined to identify any problems. Recommendations on who to use or who to avoid. Thanks.

    Faucet Replacement

Like Ross said, the back of the Monk 42 is easily accessible from the engine room. All parts on the existing faucet and on all the parts I listed have US common threads . . . everything fit together easily. The only issue are a the extensions from the nipple on each faucet inlet that extend...

    Faucet Replacement

I just recently replaced the bath/shower faucet on my 1987 Monk 42. The input water lines for the faucet were 6" from center to center. I didn't find a 6" faucet that I liked that had both a tub nozzle and a fitting for a hand held shower, so we gave up the tub nozzle, as we never used it any...
