We bought a boat with this drive. What is it? I think a Velvet drive not sure.

Post photos from the other side, the top, both ends and maybe flip it.

What is the engine it was attached to and how old?
What is the boat?
 
It is a velvet drive CR2. Manual can be found online.
If it is not installed on the engine it is a good time to replace the forward and reverse clutch disks and the front seal. It is also advisable to replace the damper plate on the engine while you have easy access.

Yup, definitely a Velvet Drive CR2. One can easily read the 10-13 designation on the reduction housing.
 
Yep, older velvet drive. Very tough tranny.
