Hey guys,

Poking around down in the Ford Lehman 80 Diesel of my Clipper and saw one part of it seems to be affected by rust, no other part really showing this, engine is 40 years old.

It’s to the back of the engine, I’m a novice so not sure what it’s called but thought I’d share a picture here and see if anyone thinks it’s either a huge red flag or just something to monitor given the age.

Thoughts appreciated.

Rob

That's the tranny dipstick there in the photo, and all that rust is probably a result of a leaking exhaust elbow. Look at the underside of it to see if you have a lot of rust under there. Time to replace it, if so. Other possible sources of water are leaky connections at the coolers/heat exchanger.

The hatch cover above the tranny may allow water to drip down when you spill something or wash the floor.

Cover the area with a paper towel and check it often, you will probably figure out where it comes from
