Your wake can tell you a lot! Before flow scans, load indicators, GPS to the 100th degree, the old timers watched their wake, a lot. Show us your wake. I borrowed the top shot off the internet. Lower image is our 1952 William Garden double ender at 9 knots. The smoothest, quietest boat I've ever driven. The lack of wake, with no cavitation or vibration tells me all is good..:)
AT 9-10 knots, how's your wake?

Not sure why it posted sideways.

7.5 kts. the blow boat I was towing without an engine put out off more of a wake than I did.

I can live with with this.

20160130_123834.jpg

That's what a 28" prop on a 45' boat at displacement speed with do for you.

Ted

This is my boat at 5.5 kts, 6.5 kts, and 17 kts. My usual slow cruise is 6.5 - 6.7 kts, so wake similar to or slightly more than the middle picture. 9-10 is solidly in the no-go zone between about 7 and 15 kts on this boat, so I don't have any pictures at that speed. If I'm going 9 kts, it's because something has given me a very good reason to.

For perspective on the pictures, camera height is about 10 feet above water in all of them.

First picture is the fastest we've ever gone at 11.5 knots under the Fox Island bridge. Of course, as you can see by the bridge piers, the current is going with us at 5 knots. The second picture is our normal 6.5 knots.

Here are a few pics I took on our trip to Seattle. The first one was taken as we cruised the lower part of the Columbia. We're cruising at our hull speed about 9.8 kts.

This is right after we got out into the Pacific, heading NNW at about 13 kts.
20200817_094809.jpg

Still in the Pacific, moving NNW at about 15kts. The wind and waves had picked up and we had moved under a cloud cover.

We're in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, moving about 15 kts and just leaving the cloud cover

An awesome sunset and wake shot. At this time we were in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. I had taken over the helm, stepped up the speed to about 17 kts as we were trying to make up some time headed to Port Angeles.

Here's the very beginning of our wake...at the stem of the boat. When somebody says the water is as smooth as glass, this is what it looks like.
The last one, you can count each turn of the prop.

Our five-year old twin boys call this "Train Track Fast" since it looks like a train track behind us at 10 knots.

This is my hellacious death wake, which has brought misery and suffering and devastation to uncounted millions of wretched souls. I make about 7.5 knots at 1800 rpm.

I usually don't slow down to pass kayaks or SUPs, and am too boring for most dolphins.

Not sure why it posted sideways.

Because you phone was sideways when you took it. The correct orientation doesn't get passed to all programs. The way to fix it is open it on your computer, rotate it (even if it looks right) and then rotate it back to the correct orientation and save it. Then it will work for everything.

Electric Wake

Me @ 6 knots in my Duffy
