Is there one this year, around the north east if not let's start planning one now

We are planning two weeks west of the Connecticut River. We have cruised extensively Long Island, NY, Block Island, Buzzards Bay MA, Cape Cod and the Islands, The south and north shores of Boston and to Maine.

Long Island Sound west of the Connecticut River is new to us.

Rob

Lots of nice places on the LI side. Mattituck inlet, Oyster Bay, The Sand hole (if you are a good navigator), and of course the free moorings in Manhasset Bay just to name a few. Port Jeff was nice when you could hook up in Pirates Cove, but I never liked the other anchorage area.
Never did much on the CT side except for the Thimbles once.
Enjoy!

Heading North this summer. Don't know if it's LI sound to Block Island and Martha's Vineyard, Lake Champlain, the Great lakes, or some combination. Probably won't firm up plans till May.

Ted

We're hoping for a run to Nantucket in late July.

Being in the middle of Narragansett bay, we're out a weeknight or two per week. We're often at block island on the weekends. Probably hit Montauk, cuttyhunk, woods hole, Martha's vineyard at least once.

I was just looking at how far up the Thames, connecticut and Hudson River you could go. Or at least would want to go.

A gang of us on the Hudson late season would be fun. Look at the leaves from our heated lower helms without so many other boaters....

We're planning a few weeks of travel starting out from home in Rochester. Plan is probably to head down into the NY canals, probably exploring the west end of of the Erie and into Cayuga and Seneca lakes. Exact plans and timeline are still TBD though. A trip down to long island sound is probably not in the cards for this year. If we get down there, it'll be by car.

If anyone gets up to Gloucester ma area I could put together a nice little cruise through the annisquam river out into Ipswich bay then up to plum island and the merrimack river,or take the outside route and stop in rockport at all the little shops, could easily make 2 days of it,Ipswich bay has some incredible sand dunes, and many places to anchor and have bon fires on the beach at night, and specially if your a fisherman I know some great spots, also to free dive on a few oyster beds, and the blessing of the fleet is always huge

Jay,

I guess I'll have to eat my words. We did go to Mattituck this summer. Loved it, will be back.

Gabe,

You can cruise about 15 miles up the Thames to Norwich. On the way you will pass Electric Boat where submarines are built, the Coast Guard Academy, The New London (in Groton go figure) Submarine Base, Mohegan Sun Casino and and many other interesting sights. Be careful navigating above the Sub Base.

I'm interested. I've been thinking about trying to get up to Maine this summer. Anything northeast of Manhattan will be undiscovered country for me. I don't know anything about Long Island sound, Block Island, Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket, either. LETS MAKE IT A CONVOY!

We have discussed Fishers Island and Watch Hill. Of course Block Island is always a good meet up spot.

Some of the best cruising grounds on the East coast are east/North of Manhattan... You will be well rewarded... and probably a whole lot easier getting to your home after getting off your job boat.

Wifey B: Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Limerick City, then there's Boston. New England cruising is incredible and then so much history too. Wonderful area to cruise. :D:D

Yes be careful. Specifically there is a stone wall that is just outside the marked channel in several places. If you stay in the channel you will be fine.

The walls are north of the Mohegan-Pequot Bridge.

We are planning to do a 16ish day cruise from Hampton, NH and hit Provincetown, Nanatucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Block Island in 2021. Probably starting mid to late July. We have been to P-town and MV before.

We’ve cruised the Maine coast quite a bit, usually doing 2 weeks hopping from place to place. We may head toward “the city” this year, we’ve never been west of Block Island. In any case, we’d be interested in a get together/cruise in the area.

i have 6 weeks of vacation that I intend to burn this year so have been making plans and would be interested in connecting.

You're in my backyard now!!!!!

Greenport, NY
Sag Harbor, NY
Coecles Harbor, NY
West Neck Harbor, NY
Montauk, NY
New London (has a ton of public moorings and Bank street is good, but a lot of ferry and train noise)
Mystic, Ct
Watch Hill, RI (Napatree Beach) (Home Port)
Block Island, RI (Where we spend a large portion of Summer)
Newport, RI
Cuttyhunk, Ma (This is a good stopover)
Hadley Harbor (This is another good stopover)
Vineyard Haven, Ma (Martha's Vineyard)
Edgartown (Our favorite on Martha's Vineyard)
Nantucket

Feel free to look me up (offer open to anyone in the area), or to ask for area specific details.

Have heard good things about Hadley Harbor. Will PM you as we start firming up plans.

In July and August, is it difficult to find a place to anchor in Nantucket? How about Block Island?

Anchorage at Block is pretty large, if you don't mind a slightly longer dinghy cruise there is plenty of room (might suggest avoiding 4th of July). There are also town moorings available on first come first serve basis.

Have not done Nantucket yet, hopefully this year.

If you do make your way to Block also consider a trip to Newport or Bristol. Moorings are fairly easy to get at those locations. If in Bristol avoid the moorings near the ferry unless you like a 6am wake up call.:eek:

Ok that's two votes for "late July"

I'm proposing a week long run from eastern ct or Montauk to Nantucket and back. Locations to be hashed out here/ depending on weather.

Departing July 18, returning the 24th.

17th(Saturday): troops are scrambled. Everyone heads for designated starting point

18th: (Sunday): starting point rendezvous. Social hour cocktails.

19th(Monday) transit to block island for mudslides at the oar.

20th (Tues) transit to Newport, ri ( 30 nm) or Menemsha or cuttyhunk (50nm). Margaritas at perro salado.

21st (Weds) head to Nantucket (50 nm). Mudslides at the pavilion.

22nd (Thurs) run up a bar tab at Cisco brewery

23rd (Fri) head for woods hole/hadley harbor. Take over the Landfall.

24th (Sat) long run back to alternate starting point. Farewell toast.

25th (Sunday) head home to recover, clean the boat, shave, prep for the week.

I post the alcoholism as a partial tongue-in-cheek, being sailors and all...

Just putting up a skeleton plan. "I'm vaclempt. Rhode island is neither a road, nor an island. Discuss."

Chickpeas are neither chicks, nor peas. Converse.

Gabe the trip sounds great, 3rd week of any month is difficult due to wife's job but we could meet up on either weekend possible with a day or so extra. Guess I could ditch her for a few days :whistling:

You could spend a whole season in and around Long Island Sound. I can share info if anyone has specific questions. The majority of my boating life has been in this area. Block Island is popular but way over-rated IMO. Much better choices for many reasons. However, many think of Block Island as a badge of courage or something to that effect. Think overpriced dirty marinas, large crowds at beach bars, etc. If that's your thing, enjoy it.

We will likely go out to Block for race week. We do have Fishers Island on the list
