Trying to change my avatar to a photo of our NP45. I go to CP, then avatar. Choose a photo (95kb) and hit upload but keep getting upload failed.

Any suggestions

Thanks,

Rob

Never mind, I guess it's working!

Looks great!!!! We loved the old Datenight whenever we saw you in Napatree.

Very nice, Robert!!

You're not getting by without adding new interior, exterior and ER photos for those of us who are verbally challenged.

Where's the beef?

I know, without photos you don't really have it! Don't have many of the interior but will get going with what I have tomorrow. Surprised I've been able to go this long without getting called out.:)

So here are some photos of the off loading of Datenight our NP 45 in Philadelphia. There were 2 boats arriving ours and another going north of Boston.

In the past, North Pacific had shipped boats as deck cargo. The fact that we were in the hold indicates to me the slow down of the global economy.

First shot is looking down at the boats. Two of us went down a series of stairs and ladders to prep for launch. We had to remove the shrink wrap and bundle it to store on board as we could not leave in in the hold. Also checked engines and gear for fluids, battery charge, thrusters, electronics.

All safety gear fenders, flares, lifejackets, fire extinguishers, lines and so fourth were lowered to us by the two guys up on deck, about 60 feet. With the covers off, gear stowed and systems tested we climbed back up and got ready to launch.

The boat was lifted out of the hold in the cradle and swung over the side. Once lowered to the rail we climbed aboard for the ride to the water. When we were in the water enough to submerge the engine intake but not float I started the engine. After seeing water coming out the exhaust and nothing in the bilge, we were lowered the rest of the way, backed out of the cradle and were on our way.

The last photo is actually the other boat. Datenight was launched first. We went on to Delaware City for commissioning.

Rob

Sorry I don't know how to right the photos.

Pilou,

Thank you for fixing the photos. No plans to go to Greece anytime soon. I crewed on the same Amel Super Maramu with my cousin in December of 2019. We moved the boat from the Canaries to Cape Verde and on to Barbados.

There were four of us for the trip which was just right. Eamonn's plan was to spend two years there but COVID intervened. The short story is he found crew and did a nonstop voyage to Ireland (he is Irish) where the boat is now.

He will be coming back to the Med eventually and possibly back to the Caribbean. I have to stay on his good side!

I have a local friend with a home in Corfu, Greece who spends several months there...

Some photos from the Atlantic crossing.

1. Barracuda, made great ceviche and baked for dinner the next evening

2. No wind, swimming in 16,000 feet of water. Always at least one person on board and a line streamed behind the boat with a fender attached.

3, 4. Eamonn's arrival in Ireland complete with fanfare and pizza at a local restaurant.

Amazing photos. Thank you Rob for sharing here. I bet that fighting with the barracuda was a big game.
Very few people on TrawlerForum know that you are an accomplished navigator with a great experience of long range cruising.

Of course I remember the name of Eamonn, your cousin with whom you sailed from St Raphael, French Riviera, to Preveza, Greece, on his sailing yacht Amel Super Maramu in 2016, and also that you flew back to Greece in 2017 to help Eamonn to spring commissioning his yacht.

Bravo Eamonn, a warm well deserved welcome. Moreover, the daily "Irish Examiner" is available throughout the whole country of Ireland !

Still about Ireland, 2 years ago we cruised the inland waterways of Ireland on the River Shannon , we enjoyed a beautiful journey in the heart of the "Emerald Isle" as well as the warm and welcoming Irish people. Not to mention the first beer of my life at Guinness Brewery, a private visit of the Trinity College’s Library, and sirloin - the best meat ever -.

We are still waiting for you and Eamonn to visit us.

Pilou,

Thank you for the kind words. We hope to get back to southern France in the near future. It will be a while before things get back to "normal". Diane and I have cruising the French canals on our dream list as well.

My mother emigrated from Ireland 1953. She was born in Kilkenny but grew up in Corrigeenroe , Co Roscommon. I bring this up because the family farm abuts Lough Key in Corrigeenroe. I wish I had known you were there. Francis who now owns the land would have welcomed you as family. It looks like you stopped at the Forrest Park. What a small world we live in.

Rob

Ok Al here are some shots of the engine room.

Indeed it’s a small world ! yes we stopped at Loug Key marina and Forrest Park in County Roscommon. Initially our plan was to stop there for 1 day but we spent 4 days since the area was gorgeous, a so peaceful natural beauty.

Ireland, the friendliest country voted among the top twenty most beautiful countries in the world, is just magical. Next time - for sure there will be a next time hopefully sooner than later - we would love to meet Francis.

After weathering a strong storm, a short cab ride brought us to the charming historic town of Boyle where we enjoyed warm Irish welcomes and hearty food. We were very close from where your mothers grew up...

Pilou,

Thank you for the photo correction information. I will file it for future use.

As I sit here reading you last post Diane asked me what I am smiling about. It was looking at your photos and recognizing the spots. Thank you! I will show them to mom in the morning.

Boyle is the closest town to Corrigeenroe. We heard many stories growing up of various trips and adventures there. Roughly 1/3 of the way to Boyle from Corrigeenroe is the high point of the trip the Rock of Doon which often figured in the stories as well.

Thanks for bringing back great memories for both me and my mother.

Rob

Rob,

You are most welcome, glad that you enjoyed the photos which brought back fond memories to us as well.

Actually the idea of cruising the Shannon river came during a lunch at our home with TrawlerForum’s member "Irish Rambler" (Geoff) and his lovely wife Evelyn who provided excellent advice and guidance. Then at the end of the day, flights, boat, and hotels were booked.

Please pass our respectful greetings to your mother.

Pilou and Olivier
