2021 Toronto Boat Show Cancelled

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

As much as I love going to boat shows, I would not even think about going to one now. The problem is that all it takes is 1 microscopic virus and your life may be over or ruined. And after it happens you can’t go back and be safer. Sucks...

That's a shame. We go every year or two. It is a much better show than Detroit or Cleveland (more boats, product, and booths) There's always an assortment of the welded plate boats that seem to be just catching on in Western Lake Erie.

Not wishing to gloat, but rather inform, and reassure at the same time.

The Sanctuary Cove Boat Show over here in Queensland, Oz, normally held in April or May, was cancelled, but they have just successfully held (no new cases) a belated, slightly scaled down boat show, just the other day. I mention it as an example of the potential reward if everyone does their bit, and you get the damned virus more or less under control. :flowers:

Here in Oz, most states are about to open their borders. However, after months of no new cases, a small spike occurred in South Australia, due to a cleaner in a quarantine unit picking it up from a traveler returning to SA and was in mandatory quarantine. She took it to her family. In the end some 23 positives, but after a quick clamp-down, so far, no new cases for two days. Just shows how careful we all still have to be, and that opening international borders freely is still some ways off.

Not complaints, your comments Mr. PB.

Never underestimate Americans’ desire to assert their God-given liberty to harm themselves and others to the point of foolishness.

For those who might be offended by the above, I’m sorry that you are offended. We had planned on attending Trawlerfest as well as the upcoming Seattle Boat Show. Best laid plans...

Yes, saw that Peter. My wife is on the SCBS email list (she’s a good girl ;)) and loves going to the show in May, and was quite upset it was cancelled this year.
Hopefully all borders will open up soon, our little state heavily relies on interstate tourism. Good to see fellow Aussies have been reasonably successful in keeping this virus contained.

Even the Sydney NYE Fireworks are truncated to a shortened midnight display with Covid front line personnel deservedly getting the limited ringside onshore seats. (Incongruously,Sydney did full fireworks last year in the middle of a bushfire epidemic.) South Australia is looking better, but someone lied to the contact tracers putting them behind the 8 ball, so not everyone is compliant. We left SA on the 8th Nov, the "you could be in trouble date" is 6 November, but didn`t go within a bull`s roar of Adelaide where the outbreak lies, keeping to the wine areas for our visit.

Toronto is going into a 28 day lock down. There won't be any big gatherings here this winter.

Short term pain for longterm gain. Victoria State here went from 700+ infections a day to none for the last 14 days, but it took way longer than 28 days.

Seattle Boat show has gone online. Basically canceled too.

To be fair, the northern hemisphere were starting their summer holidays when covid first hit, so the Europe/US rates soared with the inter-mingling, especially Europe between the many countries.
Australia was in winter mode watching from the sidelines as things deteriorated.
As we start our summer holiday mingling period, it won’t take much to kick off spreads again as Adelaide has demonstrated, particularly as the government wants to repatriate 20,000 international ex-pats and thousands of Asian fruit pickers.

..................... Americans’ desire to assert their God-given liberty ...............

Americans were granted liberty by your god? Does that mean your god actively chose to withhold liberty from other humans based on geographic borders and socio-political ideology?? :whistling:

Oh boy, warning, major thread drift. But yes, and logically and rationally you want it to be that way even if you're an atheist, otherwise liberty is ultimately and arbitrarily granted and withdrawn at the whim of the most powerful humans at the moment.

(AlaskaProf may remember one of my favorite writings in our grad school class, Arthur Leff's essays about the "grand sez who.")

But back to boat shows...
