A woodie GB 32-276 earlier in Germany as "Miriam" then moved to Finland and renamed to Shangri-La, Picture taken a month ago in Laitakari near Pori in Finland

Sea Robin, a ‘79 GB Europa. She is beautiful and keeps me going. Love to do all the stuff she needs, and she runs very nicely on twin Ford Lehman120’s. Purchased July 1,2016.

Was going to come up to the Delta but needed a starboard transmission, and ended up Staying in Ventura, CA. Good place to have a boat.

1974 GB32 #530. One of the first fibreglass.
What hull # was the first fibreglass?
Were they molded with epoxy or polyester resin?
Oil shock was in 1973 so I think production fibreglass boats switched to polyester shortly thereafter. It would be nice to know exactly when.
 
I don't know exactly when the GB line switched to fiberglass but think that information is available online. I've seen it somewhere; probably on the old Grand Banks site. I did look at one 1974 GB 32 that was definitely glass.

I'm reasonably sure that all fiberglass boats built in the '70s used polyester resin. Epoxy glass layup did not become common until much more recently, and was part of the industry response to hull blistering, along with vinylester.

In 2012 I sold Satisfaction my wonderful 1984 GB 36 hull #697. Where oh where has my little girl gone? Last I heard was CN. Anyone know where she is?

Our 84 GB 36 came from CT. Thought it Might have been yours based on your posts over the years but hull # is 715. Great boat and well taken care of.
 
With all this GB wisdom, a question. I'm looking at a 1999 GB 42 that hasn't run in two years, on the hard. The PO never did any of the periodic maintenance on the 3208 TA's, have about 4700 hours. Are the engines likely to be junk, or am I ok if I get Cat to service them?

Welcome to TF. You’d get more response if you have a moderator move your question to “Power Systems” under the “Maintenance and systems” part of the site.

If you get serious about making an offer on the boat, you should plan to have an engine survey performed by a competent marine mechanic. It’s money well spent. My engines sat idle for about five months while I diagnosed, removed and replace my fuel tanks in 2016. My engines, Cat 3208 na, fired after half a turn.

She’s a ‘72 Woodie in gorgeous condition (minus a newly-blown transmission) that I bought in July. The absolute perfect boat for my needs. Purrs like a kitten and makes me feel like I’ve taken several Valium tablets, so relaxing is she.

Mine was built in 1973, hull number 461, the previous owner was told by GB that she was one of the first built in fibreglass.

Third Reef

Hello,
New to this forum. We are the proud owners of Third Reef, 1988 36' Heritage Classic, Hull#819, single screw, 3208NA. She is currently put to bed on the hard in our yard in South Harpswell Maine.

In our first year of retirement we will be cruising the coast of Maine in 21 and then prepare to depart on a multi year Great Loop in 22.

Hope to see all you Grand Bankers out there.

Nope, Satisfaction was hull #697.
 
Grand Banks 42FT, hull #125,docked in Florence Alabama. Have documentation from American Marine Ltd (signed by Tony Fleming) that this is the boat built for Mr Robert Newton, founder, president and CEO of Grand Banks (American Marine Ltd).

Tell us, have you noticed anything unique in comparison to other 42's of that year. It would be interesting if any customizing was made originally.

My Name is Greg Lemons. I have a 1973 Grand Banks 42' fiberglass hull # 355. Do you know anything about GB hull #. I believe mine is the 3 rd. hull made in 1973 fiberglass. I would like to have more info on 1 & 2.

From my understanding, Mr Newton loved the sound of Detroit Diesels. Thus,this boat came with DD, which were changed out in 1974,for a different set of 4/53 Detroits. The reason is so far unknown. Also,this boat hss 800 gallon tanks,compared to 600 in other 42s.
There is also a large cabinet on the port side,that normally is a small couch,witb a small "end table "attached.
I'm not at the boat right now, but, I'll have some pictures in a day or two. But,here are some papers you may like.
