Can you recommend a relo captain from San Juans to Portland with owner onboard? Good people only please.

Jack DeFriel. He has a website. I have personally traveled with him. He is a quality gentleman.

He did a great job moving our boat from Portland to Seattle a few years back.

I hope that I'm not too late. it's not easy to find delivery captains that do coastal deliveries. I just moved my boat from Blaine to Portland. I used Jim White. I went along for the ride as the third deck hand. He and the fellow that he works with made a great team. We had a great time. He is fairly conservative and won't go if the weather is more than the boat can easily handle.

He works out of Sausalito.

Why not do it yourself with your crew? I am sure some of your friends have done it?

First time around is a little intimidating.

Reviewing your past posts and reading between the lines, I understand your reluctance to go it alone.

You lauded an training captain in the past, is that no a viable resource?
An excellent choice, already mentioned:

Thank you for the recommendation, we have found a gentleman with much experience making the trip and bar crossing.

#6, The captain requirement is an insurance requirement. Also I think it is intelligent for the safety of the crew and boat.

#7, I checked with the few captains I know and they chose not to do the trip.

It looks like we've found someone who has a lot of experience with the west coast travel and Columbia Bar. Thanks to all for your recommendations.

I need to do the reverse trip in the spring (PDX to SEA). What is the general cost these days?

For me from my winter dock to Friday Harbor is about 335 gallons of diesel at 14kts. Then for the rest of the summer around 9kts. Last year total fuel for the cruise was around $7,900

Thanks! I'm bringing a Sea Ray 560SB (bigger brother to GFC's Sea Ray) up the coast.
