When my boat was berthed I would shut all of the through hulls and the fuel tanks when we left the boat untended. On that boat it took all of 5 minutes to shut them all. Then I'd leave a big sign on the ignition that the main water inlet and fuel valves were closed! I actually have never had a hose clamp fail but I have had a fuel system start to leak when just sitting (go figure), thus that's why I shut the fuel off.
