I need to replace my Nilsson Maxwell windlass with a new windlass. I have identified the windlass but I am unsure about the gypsy options: my old windlass shows 54 engraved on the inside any indications of size and model of chain? Choices are 3/8 HT 3/8 BBB 5/16 HT and 5/16 BBB does 54 corresponds?

You have existing chain to which you want to fit a new windlass, right? Is the chain you have marked?

Greg.

Here is the email address that I used to find out:
Hello Richard

The 105 stamped in the chain wheel means the wheel is for 5/16" High Test grade 40 chain.

Subject: Enquiry from Maxwell Marine web site form

Enquiry: I have an older Maxwell windlass. I need to get new chain and I see "105" stamped inside the chain wheel.

What size and type chain should I use?

Thanks. Richard
