Years ago we were entering Grays Harbor. The CG asked me if I was requesting an escort across the bar. I replied no. They asked if I was sure I didn’t want an escort. Not being a total idiot, I figured out what he was telling me and changed my mind and requested an escort. When the 47 MLB came out to escort us in we kept loosing sight of it as the waves came between us. We had been out in the waves all day and had become somewhat complacent about the waves. We didn’t really have anything to gauge the waves until we lost sight of the 47. The waves were much bigger than we thought. We were really glad that they came out and escorted us in safely.

All true, however check the bar condition and WAIT if needed to cross safely. Always cross on a slack or food tide.

So when they do an escort, do you follow them in? Or did they just stay close, in case something went awry?
