I have talked to two different vendors now and nobody can identify my Perkins generator. I do have a serial number for it, but they say it is not long enough. It is an old engine from the 80s and it was made in Japan. The manual and the label on the engine shows the same serial number, but they cannot locate it.
I will need few parts, but without proper identification, they cannot sell me anything.
I attach few pictures to help the discussion.
Thanks.

What I have on Perkins engine numbers:

Thanks Lepke.
I think I was able to decode it. Your documents list 2 liter/cyl engines. Mine is 3 cyl.
Here it is:

P - 1987 (year made)
J - Japan (country where it was made)
KD - 103.10 (engine type)
04P02 - parts list number
15070 - serial number

KD 04P02 J 15070 P

For cost, if it's used in tractors or industrial, any larger tractor/farm supply.
https://www.parts4engines.com/ In the UK, but good service. Shipping reasonable.

https://www.agkits.com/ for rebuild kits if they have your engine.
https://maxiforce.com/perkins-engine-parts another good one.
https://www.perkinspacific.com/dealers/ Perkins
https://www.foleyengines.com/ don't seem to have good service and higher prices
Lot of Perkins engines in Ag, mining, logging and industrial equipment. Engine is usually the same as marine versions, just different manifolds.

I was able to buy the cooling tank cap from one the vendors listed. However, they can only get certain parts.
I will need a heat exchanger and a oil pressure sender.
Thanks for the list.

The oil pressure sender isn't engine specific. It just needs to have the right threads and be compatible with the gauge. They are very generic parts.

The heat exchanger isn't part of the engine proper, it is part of the marinization. You'll want to get the number off of it. Or, alternately, get the measurements and a picture and send it to a vendor.

www.mrcool.us can probably help, as can many other folks.

Even a different heat exchanger will work if it fits in the space, has the same cooling capacity, has the right connections to the hoses, and can be bolted onto a bracket, etc.

For OE marinization parts log on to ejbowman.co.uk they can supply all Perkins marinisation parts, plus many other engine types too.
Shipping worldwide, no problem.

Nothing even close on Boatdiesel.com
What parts do you need?.

Thanks Lepke.

Hello again Lepke

I wonder, if you could help me out again?
I am looking for a raw water pump for this Perkins. I called few vendors, but I was told that it is an obsolete part.

145016941

This is the part number.

Thanks.

Probably a Shibaura engine, those were sold by Perkins for a number of years. Much like Northern Lights.

Might be the same HX as used by Northern Lights. Post a pic of your HX and your water pump, probably a Johnson.

Oil gauge stuff can be sourced from original vendor, VDO, etc.

This what I have running now.

I think that pump crossed to a Jabsco 29450-1201

I talked to this vendor already and they could not find any direct replacement. It is interesting that you point to this one and they would not know?

I wonder why this pump is so expensive? It is a small unit and I don’t see anything special on it. Of course, it is a hard to find item.

The existing one I have is running fine. I just wanted to have a backup. Even a used one would do.

In my best estimate, it is either 29450-1701 or 29450-1201, and more likely the 1201. But, I could easily be wrong. I haven't seen your engine and these things can be different. Sometimes substitutions are for a subclass or superclass.

One thing you can do is to pull yours and compare the dimensions and measurements to the figures shown for those two pumps, order the one that looks right, compare once you have it, and return and try again if wrong. You can also do the best you can from the outside and take a guess. You could also steer diesel parts direct to those two numbers and see what they can find focusing on them.

But, you can also see my many posts about these things. A lot of places have good prices drop shipping from manufacturers, but don't know the engines.

I buy most Perkins parts from S&W Diesel in Wilmington, CA (310-835-3155) and sometimes from Trans-Atlantic Diesel in Virginia (804-642-9296), because they know the engines and can solve problems. It is worth it to me to support their business and keep them doing that. S&W, in particular, has always been there to support me -- even when I haven't bought from them (in stock vs not vs time pressure).

It is also possible that Perkins sells the part under the original number to authorized dealers, by repackaging the correct substitute. I've seen S&W get Perkins to ship parts others said were unavailable, most recently an oil pressure relief valve. It showed up in Perkins wrapping and box printed with a Perkins number -- but had the same stampings (which didn't directly identify the manufacturer) as a 3rd party. The difference to me was that, lifting an engine to put it in was a big job, so I needed a perfect match, no guesswork the 1st time.

So, what to say? If it were me, and I needed to be able to pull it out of a box 5 years from now and know it was right because I was otherwise stranded, I'd call S&W (or transatlantic) -- with the added bonus of knowing that I'm keeping them able to do exactly that.

Other than using MrCool.us for coolers and heat exchanger (they took great care if me before I found S&W), I tend to be pretty loyal to S&W (and transatlantic, if dictated by shipping urgency).

But, it will be more expensive going through a legit over-the-counter storefront dealer, so I can also understand taking a stab at the cross yourself (I gave you my best two estimates) and verifying it (be prepared to make a gasket).

Sadly, without being there, I can't offer you a guarantee. I can just say that it would surprise me if I can find a match that S&W or transatlantic can't find. But, I won't give myself extra credit by comparison to an online-only, many, many line place like diesel parts direct.

Please don't get me wrong, I've never heard a bad word about diesel parts direct, never heard them ofvthem shipping a bad match or having high prices, etc. And, I really don't know that I have this right.

...just offering up my best from here.

Oh, also, those parts are high dollar. They last indefinitely, i.e. many decades, in salt water and can be rebuilt. So, the price doesn't surprise me, other than, as others might expect, I expect it is less than it world be from a seller who does more.
