After finally getting everything finished and the boat stocked we are ready to leave Portland tomorrow.
The major items that needed to be completed are below;
1) Complete service of main, transmission, generator.
2) Completed the install of new Summit fridge.
3) Repair/resurface of interior/exterior teak.
4) Service water maker.
5) Inspection and repainting of ground tackle.
6) Cut and wax outside.
7) Two short shakedown cruise’s to verify all systems are go.
8) Several shopping trips for food, consumables, spare parts.

We are heading down the pacific coast and plan to cruise very slowly south doing day runs for the most part. We have no set schedule and plan to only travel on very good weather days. Wont be entering Mexico until November with fairly long stops in San Francisco, Ventura, LA and San Diego.

We hope to spend the winter months cruising the Sea of Cortez before hauling out at Puerto Panasco or San Carlos/Guaymas for hurricane season and yard work.

I will try and give updates as long as we have internet. Please follow our journey here as well as the blog.

Cheers all, and look forward to meeting up with fellow TFer’s along the way, the TF Burgee will be flying off the bow.

Keep the updates coming, John. Hope you have smooth sailing and great adventures.

How are you marking your chain, ie what lengths red, white.... On my list.

That looks like an apartment refrigerator. It'll never work on a boat. ;) Hope you're enjoying yours as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Spent 3 days in La Paz, Mexico boat shopping in 2014. Did two half day cruises in the Sea of Cortez, wonderful! If you stop in La Paz, two words:

Scallop Tacos

Ted

Sounds like a Great trip--hope for Perfect Weather.

Beware Pt. Conception, nasty spot. I used to spend a lot of time on work survey boats in the area, & never had a time when there wasn't a distress call from a yacht. Many HUGE ships have gone down there, so give it a wide berth & mind the weather closely.

We paint the first 50’ and last 50’ all white. Then every 25’ we paint orange, at 100’ And 200’ its painted orange/white. This is our system and we have seen plenty of other cruisers with there own system. Choose what works for you.
Not a big fan of the zip tie’s or colored plugs, hard to see those from inside the pilot house.

Can’t believe the anchor crowd hasn’t chimed in on the merits of our primary yet. LOL

Thanks for the concern, but this ain’t our first rodeo.

Today’s weather outside of the Columbia Bar, 3’ primary swell at 18 seconds, wind is 4 knots, just the kind of weather we love.

Were a few days from crossing the bar, we get to stop over at ASD’s dock for a nice weather window and good bar crossing time.

Mike and Tina,

No plans to return, you two are gonna have to come see us, it ain’t that far from the AZ house. Maybe next summer we can hook up. We will probably make a few trips to Mexico by car, and most likely we will be traveling through Phoenix, Ya never know.

Cheers Friends!

"Provisions and consumables" Hummmmmm, Were this a North bound voyage 'Alaska Amber' would be appropriator.
Safe travels friend,

Al

If you two happen to be headed toward Phoenix in the winter months drop me a text, PM or msg on TF. You have a place to stay if you come to visit.

We passed you yesterday as you were leaving the Walker Island channel.

Safe travels!

We winter in Mulege, so I'll be looking for your boat when you get up to Bahia de Conception.

Crusty,

Let me know when you hit La Paz, I'll buy you a beer. You are going to LOVE the Sea of Cortez!

Cheers, Bill

Safe travels friend,

Al

Al,
You know us too well. And yes, we do have a few AA’s onboard, even if we are going the wrong direction!

Cheers, my friend!

Off to a slow start!

Our friends, Russ and Missy (RMLOW, here on TF) decided to stay another night and enjoy the facilities here at Marina De ASD with us. Tried in vane to catch a bait fish for a possible Sturgeon set up. Numerous beers, and a fine dinner aboard Pairadice was prepared by the Admirals for the great fisherman.
Sure wish Kay was here to show us how its done. Tom, I pulled the weeds and hosed off the dock. The local residents pretty much covered your dock with numerous presents.
Looks like we may have missed a weather window to cross the Bar. Oh well.
Good thing we aren’t in any rush.

And to you both we say, “Hurry up and retire”! You’ve done a great job on your boat, she’s almost ready!

We arrived at Cathlamet for the next 2 days and then onto Astoria on Thursday. Hoping for an early bar crossing on Friday if the weather holds.
We’ve decided to head to Newport as its a 12 hour run Bar to Bar, this allows us to exit and enter on a Slack Flood, our preferred time. I’ll explain more in a later post for those that are not aware of Bar Crossings.
In the mean time, Ive included our In Reach link in the signature line if you want to find out where Pairadice is.
Now its off to the local brew house, just a 100 yards away from the boat.
Cheers all!

Finally made it to Astoria, enuff of this tourist stuff, lets go! A really nice day to cruise down river. 5 knots of wind, river was like glass and the Sun (a real rarity) actually came out a couple of hours before we docked hear at West Basin in Astoria. Busy place here they put us on T-Dock and no power. Hope we get a discount.
Sunday AM is crossing the Bar and finally heading south. First stop Newport.

And wouldn’t ya know it, it’s beer o’clock! See ya.

Taco’s and a cold beer, ya buddy!
Oh man, you have no idea!

Some of the best tacos anywhere are just up the street from my casa.
We stockpile Buena Noches (a seasonal bock) on our way down.
And then there's Taco Tuesdays down the bay at Buenaventura.

And I can show you where to buy bacon.

Will be following your thread and look fwd to good times in baja, hoy!
