Finished some projects

Well, close enough. Still waiting for a grill to mount in the open space over the convection/microwave.

We wanted to update the galley and saloon. Besides the oven, new Corian, induction cooktop and undermount sink. I also installed a killer low-amp blower to pull cooler air through the oven cavity

The chair by Mac Motion are a perfect fit, good quality, very comfortable and not stupid expensive.

The Whale pumps are mounted in deep paint roller rays below the stuffing boxes. Dry bilge!

I got lots of help here on these projects. Many thanks once again for the good counsel.

I am considering this or buffing out the Formica.

We just did our countertops withh corian. It was my first time working with coran. Went very well and as easy. I put photos in a thread of new soliid surface countertops.

Choices, if you’re asking me, the Corian is 1/2” Witch Hazel pattern with a 1” lip except where we retained the fiddles. I had it professionally installed because there are no right angles on this boat and the backsplash coping around the window moulding is way beyond my skill set. OK, I’ll try.

Our boat came with a Rube Goldberg setup to get rid of stuffing box leakage. Water collected in trays under each packing gland, flowed “downhill” through hoses all the way to the forward end of the engine room to a small sump/depression where a water-sensing bilge pump picked it up and pumped it all the way aft to a shower sump/basin from which it was pumped overboard. (And here’s the kicker: this aft basin is directly between the stuffing boxes—just inches away—but isolated by the hull stringers.)

This never worked well. Besides the ridiculously long hose runs forward and then aft again, the trays were flimsy and the hoses were not connected properly; they leaked around the fittings and easily became clogged.

I really like a dry bilge, so my solution was to shorten the total hose run from 30+ feet to less than three feet and simply pump the water over the stringers directly into the sump/basin.

The Whales are Supersub Smart 650s, activated by water sensors at the rear of their housings. I mounted them in deep, heavy plastic paint roller trays that, after a little trimming, fit nicely in the space below the stuffing boxes. I installed an on-off-(on) Blue Sea switch to operate each of them. They simply pump any drainage from the stuffing boxes over the stringers and into the shower sump/basin where, in turn, it’s pumped overboard.

Some will say this is overkill, but it’s the only way I’ve been able to find—short of dripless shaft seals, which I don’t want—to ensure a dry bilge.
