New name: shoes and belt?

I'd name it Cuddles...then find a new marina!!

Ever have a problem finding a diver to work on your boat?

Isn’t that a cute little gator!

Criminy....I get grossed out if a slug shows up on my sidewalk. I'd have a stroke if one of those wandered by.

Greetings,
Mr. S. Never name your dinner...

Star: You were worried about your Direct TV before, right? Well, don't be. You have the Animal Planet channel in your backyard. Lol

That's the one thing I miss about living in Florida - the crazy exotic nature! I've seen dead monkeys on the side of the road hit by cars, big iguanas running around the backyard, and after hurricane Andrew, there were tigers, leopards and other big cats that got out running around - I didn't see them, but I did see the helicopter flying around shooting them dead (my uncle's neighbor raised them in Homestead).

Now you guys have killer anaconda and swarms of lion fish - yep, never a dull moment :)

I doubt you have much of a problem with duck and goose poop on swim platforms and docks...

As a native Floridian I'm generally not too bothered by gators (the real ones, not the ones from the "school" in Gainesville). I do keep my dog away from them if they are over 5'. But the biggest alligator I've ever seen was in Louisiana. We were duck hunting near the mouth of the Mississippi near main pass and saw it sunning on a bank next to a dry spot where a guy was running a few cows. Fifteen feet if it was an inch. There was a mud chute where it looked like it had dragged a cow down into the water. Insane.

A few days before we saw the gator, we were visited by this sickly raccoon. Think it might have had distemper. It’s since disappeared. I hope someone put it out of its misery. We couldn’t find anyone who had a quiet gun or a humane way to kill it.

Well, here in Florida with the toxic algae and the ride tide, oil well spills and the over development, over fertilizing, and really old septic tanks, we are trying to get rid of as much of the wild live as possible. :banghead:

This guy hangs around our marina. That's my boat Gumbo in the background

This is the guy to get to scrub the bottom of your boat. Did I mention he’s nuts?

Our marina wildlife is a bit less confronting.

Wow that Manny Pig guy is a real adrenaline junkie. I don't remember Steve Irwin or Crocodile Dundee playing like that. Unfortunately it only takes one bad incident to make your entire life go sideways.

BTW, you guys have all the fun. The most exciting thing swimming in our marinas is a cuttlefish, squirting black ink in your face when you try to tickle his chin

For anchored folks that shine a light to see the wildlife at night , a simple rule of thumb is every inch between the eyes is about a foot of LOA.

Next time I'm diving and croczilla approaches me, I'll ask him to sit still while I take my measuring tape :)

Reminds me of the traditional way of measuring a lion. Stretch him out tight by the tail and nose and drive two wood sticks into the ground at those point. Then measure the distance between them....

... by the way, it is generally recommended that the lion be dead before you do this.

That guy is pretty darn dumb and video was fun to watch, but like most of its kind, greatly exaggerated. Except for perhaps right in the beginning, that gator wasn't remotely interested in attacking, if it wanted to it would have, no matter what the guy in the water did. The gator clearly just wanted to be left alone.

Also, no way it is close to 1,000 pounds. More like 350 or 400. A lot of the length is in the tail, which is not that heavy, his body is perhaps 5 feet long. Compare the size of that gator to this 1,000 pound marlin. Not even close.

Here's a 500 pound gator. The one in the video is perhaps this size.

Unless, of course, the guy messing with the gator is 8 feet tall and weighs 400 pounds.

In my experience it's really easy to overestimate the size of a wild animal in the water. When I was tarpon guiding we had a hammerhead that used to hang around the flats and occasionally eat a hooked tarpon. All the guides (who are very used to seeing 150 lb tarpon) saw it, and we estimated it to be about 14 feet and 800 pounds. I had a marine biologist who did a lot of shark work fishing with me one day when the shark swam right next to my boat. He said more like 9 feet and 400.

All that said, that gator is still plenty big to do damage and pretty crazy to see somebody mess with one like that. Thanks for posting, Parks.
