Right now my boat is sitting in the islands and I fly back and forth to spend time on it. When we are not in the islands, I find myself sitting around all weekend (previously every weekend was spent on the boat.)

I have toyed with the thought of buying a second boat to keep as a floating condo since we have to pay slip rent regardless in order to keep our slip at our home marina.

This got me to thinking about a 30-60K trawler.

Any opinions on this or input from those who have done something similar?

At this price point, if I was looking for a boat that would spend most of it's time sitting at the dock, I would buy an gas powered aft cabin instead of a trawler.

An aft cabin would have more liveable space than a trawler, the gas engines would be cheaper than diesels (and since it would be primarily docked who cares about the mpgs.

We would keep one boat in the islands and the other one at our home marina.

Cheaper than buying a house there!

No boat more livable than a houseboat

"No boat more livable than a houseboat "

Using a boat for its designed purpose is usually the best!

Houseboats rock , as houseboats! Not long distance cruisers, GO houseboat.

I’m doing the same thing right now. I’m looking for 45-50ft.
