Thinking about buying a house in this area and would appreciate receiving comments on good marinas, dry storage and general boating experiences there. Especially would like to know how you handle hurricanes. Many thanks!

Never too late,
No dry stack in the area. A few marina's ( 4 ) in Washington.
One on the outskirts and two private and one city right downtown.
Washington is low with considerable flooding recently.

On the other side of the river is a private golf and boating community called Cypress Landing. 220 slips, floating. Recent storms no damage. All homes are a minimum 26' above the river.

Never too late,
One other thing, they have a Discovery package.
You can get a boat ride, round of golf and visit to the bar for drinks with a couple from Cypress Landing if you want.
IT is a very active community with very low HOA dues and overall low cost of living.

PS, THE DOCK MASTER IS 252 975 3955 and he is a good source of information addition to the website

Don't forget Bath, NC. It is in a pretty creek off of the Sound before you get to Washington and has a couple of marinas. The land surrounding it is high, so no hurricane flooding worries. It is a charming, quiet town but the "big city", Washington is just a few miles away.

Thanks once again, Bill. Great information! It's a nice looking area, and I'm looking into it.

Another Cypress Landing Resident here. Thought I heard you talking to the Dockmaster today on the phone. This is a great area and the nicest marina around for many, many miles. Let us know if you need more info...

I'm familiar with Bath, David, and you're right about it. Plus, the ghost of Blackbeard roams those waters.

No real marina in Bath, so you'd want a house on water with dock. Lovely place though for sure. Especially if you long to "get away from it all". One consideration for Little Washington is that for more sophisticated shopping and especially medical care, you have to go to New Bern or Greenville. Likewise to see a movie. One reason our friends here in New Bern who have businesses in Little Washington commute. Beaufort County has traditionally been pretty aggressive with incentives to people bringing new businesses in.

Another issue, for us at least, is that it is something of a haul to get to cruising grounds from there (or New Bern to a certain degree as well, which is why we moved the boats to Morehead City). But all of these issues are personal preferences and perceptions and choices.
