Same hull, different engines -- should my decision be biased toward (or against) one of these 2 engines, or are they basically comparable?

The turbo Lehmans are more problematic than the Cummins turbo. I'd favor the Cummins. Lehman turbo parts, some may be difficult to source. No such issue with the Cummins.

I agree with Ski, plus the Cummins is a generation newer which means better lubrication, materials and engineering.

Another vote for 210 Cummins. Four months and 350 hours on mine this summer, up and down to Alaska. It's the one system on my boat that I consider iron-clad and bulletproof.

Is a 210-hp Cummins a turbo'd engine? Is it a 6BT?

210 Cummin is 6BT, turbo but no aftercooler. 225 Lehman is turbo with sea water aftercooler.

I'm not sure if you can get the aftercooler hardware for the Lehman anymore, and there are some weird aluminum bits in the cooling system that tend to corrode. Ran into one a couple of years ago and getting parts was a problem, not sure if that situation still exists.

Seems you can get most anything for a non-turbo Lehman, but the turbo is quite different.

Cummins, hands down.
Lehman’s seem popular with the crowd that populates this forum, but that’s because so many of the boats they run came equipped with them some 30 or more years back.
It’s a default preference.

Hard question Mint Lehman very low hours or flogged out Cummins 10000 hours ?
Same with the boat ??

Whichever is in better condition.

The Cummins is the obvious choice and in my mind it's more about parts support but not everything is cut and dry.

Good point. Quite possibly a crappy boat with a Cummins is not as good overall as a really nice boat with L225s. I've an Alaskan friend with the 225s and between ultrasonic cleaning of after coolers and parts (as seldom needed) from American Diesel he has done fine.
