Yes and according to AIS "Big Fish" is travelling Jervis Inlet today, wonder if it is the same vessel.

Commiserations,that is really ugly. The culprit is likely illiterate as well as stupid so will never read your post. The only way through to people like that is via law enforcement or a civil claim. You don`t have enough damage to warrant the latter but maybe the local water related LEOs could be interested.

Likely is the boat. I would write down a very accurate account of the event including time place etc... Take that and contact the boat owner/operator and make a complaint. Send the same information to the appropriate authorities. In BC, that would probably be the RCMP?

Several times I’ve been passed similar to that aboard the Willard.

If there’s room (perhaps 50 to 70’) I wait till I can turn 90 degrees (at full throttle) plus before I hit the stern of the passing boat. Done thusly I can’t hit the passing boat but I come somewhat close and my maneuver usually gets noticed. I never gave a middle finger salute (kinda busy) but taking his stern wave straight on beats badly rolling and if he ever came up on my stern again I probably got much more clearence in passing.
Never had an “oh that was too close” either.

You may have a hard time finding a specific law about wake, but if you do have an injury, even a minor one, call the Canadian coast guard and report just exactly that. Ask them to contact the Big Fish, which is anchored in vhf land tonight just outside Halfmoon Bay and relay contact information. Then send your wife to the hospital to get checked out, even if she is relatively okay and plan to send them the bill. Negotiations can start at that point as you will have their attention. If you have AIS, vesselfinder May even have the incident documented in their telemetry. They charter for $245K for the summer. I doubt they would enjoy being known for their careless actions by those chartering.

I appreciate the words and advice.
The company has been contacted and the owner and operators are being made aware of the indecent.
I have no interest in damages, simply that they are aware of such a careless captain in control of their vessel.

Arrived and had the anchor down with lots of time to spare.

The water became flat calm so Claudia took a few mirror image pictures.
This one ended up quite erie when turned up

After our scare with Big Fish in “Hole in the wall” channel, it was easy going through the Yuks, Gillards and Dent rapids. After the morning stress, rather than do the next 2 rapids, we stopped at Shoal Bay for a nice, relaxing sunny afternoon. The scenery on the way was pretty nice too.
Claudia was surprised when she looked out to see 2 friendly and curious dogs peeking in to see what she was up to. Cute...

Pretty uneventful trip to anchor in Douglas Bay, just after Whirlpool Rapids for the evening. Awoke early the next morning hoping for a good start before Johnstone Strait woke up. Glad we did as it was just wavelets upon entering the Strait but the wind was beginning to create 2+ ft waves and building as we turned in 12 miles later.
The owners of Lagoon Cove Marina we’re happy to see us..... we are the ONLY boat here now ��

As it goes...things cleared for a beautiful run up!
Crossed Knight Inlet to Tribune Channel. So Pretty!
Thompson Sound’s snow capped mountains looked amazing!
Checking into Bond Sound before heading into Kwatsi Bay for the evening.
Loving this day!

PS...we are the lone boat at Kwatsi Bay as well.
Some may not enjoy this but late season cruising gives you uncrowded anchorages and marinas. The mountains are getting snow capped now. Much prettier than just a few weeks ago.
Yes..it’s cooler at night but a bus heater running underway and a Espar or Wabasko (sp?) at anchor or docked keeps you warm.
The scenery is worth it.

Kwatsi Bay has been on my list for years but ...

Max, the owner, came and joined us for dinner last night. He has a wealth of local knowledge and experience. Was a wonderful evening.
Now walking with crotchs, he has the marina and shoreside home for sale. His arthritis has overtaken his ability to continue on. Sad actually.... such a beautiful spot.
If you’ve ever thought of living remotely and meeting lots of folks during busy season that pay you.....this may be your chance. The price is reasonable and with the favourable USA dollar...even more so.
Speaking of wealth of knowledge, we are off to see Billy Proctor shortly.

Kwatsi Bay

Sorry to hear that Max's health is forcing he and Anca to sell. Their rustic marina is one of our favourite places to stay in the Broughtons. Always very hospitable folks.
We remember watching from our dinghy as 100 + dolphins herded fish into the end of the bay and then the feeding frenzy began. Amazing!

Yes...sad for sure. Great folks and always a pleasant stop!
Swung into Echo Bay on the way to see Billy. Pierre’s is for sale as well. Again, health..
Billy on the other hand seems great!
He is 84 in 10 days and sharp, witty and limber.
Spent a few truly wonderful hours on the porch chatting. He’s such a treasure!
Continuing on to Joe Cove for the evening. First roast beef in the oven.

I’ve always felt secure and “tucked in” tied to the old float at Joe Cove.
While you are secure from wind and waves, the old float is certainly deteriorating rapidly. Just walking on the only side left to tie to is an adventure. Still, makes for a pretty spot.
The first roast beef meal on Emma B turned out really well. Went fishing out front and it was so nice to return to a warm boat with awesome smells once back.
Headed to Port McNeil this morning on a veggie run. The sound is flat calm!

As typical, we were treated to multiple Humpback sightings crossing Blackfish sound as well as a pod of Orcas, then we’re visited by several Dahl’s porpoises to complete the day. It simply doesn’t get much better! Calm seas, beautiful scenery and abundant marine life!
Lots to be thankful for this Canadian thanksgiving weekend.

On our way to Port McNeil yesterday, Emma B passed the 2000 nautical mile mark. Hope to put many more on her.

Just spent a productive day in Port Mcneil.
Provisioned up, fueled and water too. Ready to carry on.
It’s a great place as the grocery store let’s you take the cart down to the marina. A quick stop at the liquor store on the way back and the cart was full.
Claudia did laundry yesterday and I tackled cleaning the outside of the boat. Nice to give it a good scrub and get the salt and grime off.
Headed over to Sointula this morning. It’s only an hours run so will be the shortest day yet. Have never been to this historic place so should be an interesting day.

If you like baked goods, stop in the bakery near the ferry dock at Sointula. We were not there this year, but I recall he was there for only a few hours in the morning. EXCELLENT sausage rolls and EXCELLENT Pulla bread.

We really enjoyed Sointula. Borrowed bicycles from the Marina and toured the town. As a bonus, museum was open which was very nice. Lots of history to the island and may Finn’s still speak the language.
The folks were all super friendly!
Probably many more cruising boats “in season” with the fleet being mostly work boats now.

Wind was forecast to come up so we crossed Blackfish sound while the getting was good, returning to the Broughtons.
As typical, the whales didn’t disappoint and we encountered several humpbacks crossing.

Anchored in Waddington Bay for a few nights to enjoy Canadian thanksgiving.
The rains came but we were snug in a protected anchorage and enjoyed both the heat and smells from things prepared in the oven and some nice “down time”.
Much to be thankful for! Great friends and family and a wonderful boat to cruise these beautiful waters with. After a early summer health scare, all the sweeter and more thankful.

PS...with so much rain those few days and our water fills on the side decks, I dammed the intakes with face cloths and we literally filled the water tanks sitting there.

Had just done a major exterior cleaning a few days before at Port McNeil so after a good rinse had no worry letting the rain in.
