I guess it is a good idea, though never saw a prop that was worn out from scraping with normal putty knives in the water and steel wire brushes when hauled each year.

I wonder if divers use them when hull cleaning?
 
If you round the corners of a standard putty knife, there's really no scratching.

wkearney99 has the right answer. Mine too. The wet edges of the paper check wont even scratch your fiberglass
