Anyone else getting the following in email?

Trawler Forum <newsletter@trawlerforum.com>

Trawler Forum Newsletter Issue 2 - June 2018 - Week 23

I got it too, but also deleted it. However, I didn't see anything suspicious about it. Other forums that I'm on send me the same type of thing.

I have received it twice and unsubscribed both times, on the forum daily so I don't need reminders.

I gather it is a new thing. Done as a service to alert members to some recent interesting posts. It is not spam, but by all means unsubscribe if it annoys. I was a bit surprised by it myself. Emanated from higher up, I gather.

I whacked it as well.

Yes. I got it too. You're worried about the sender? Then forward them to a Trawler Forum moderator and see what he has to say about them.

Greetings,
I only received that notice once but it was a bit different. Something about living only 5 miles away and getting together for some sort of party. Said her name was Trixie...

Social Knowledge LLC, looks like a company that owns/operates a lot of forums including this one.

Forums with a lot of traffic like this one usually get bought out by conglomerates like that. All those little adds at the top, or the side... that's why. I know of at least three people that started forums and once they got to a certain point of regular traffic, they made big money by selling the forums to agencies like Social Knowledge.

I just did - see post #6. :)

Unfortunately, if you're that concerned about your email address being shared, the only way to prevent it is to never type it on a screen and hit the enter key. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter, but all that does is stops it from coming to your email box. Unfortunately you agreed to the terms and conditions of the forum when you registered and signed up, and they're going to milk it for every advertising dollar they can get.

I know. But, it's fun to scold those who are deaf! - LOL

When you unsubscribe from unknown emails as such all it dose is confirms your email address is both active and real so now expect to receive even more spam

First 15 posts: all have sent it away.
Me too.

I think there is a degree of over-reaction, almost bordering on paranoia, going on over this. Simply put, TF has your email from when you joined. TF is sending you a personal email newsletter drawing attention to current popular threads. End of story. No-one is selling your email address to anybody. :nonono:

Social Knowledge LLC was founded in 2005 by entrepreneur Andy Robinowitz to operate & promote many forums with over 1.25 million members where people share similar interest. Social Knowledge LLC's marine branch operates SailBlogs, CruisersForum, TrawlerForum, RIBnet, Boat Mad, Maxum Owners Club, Cruiser Log and World Cruisers Wiki.

As a member of CruisersForum - TrawlerForum's sister-site, an international online community for sailboat & motorboat - for the last three years I regulary receive The Cruisers Daily Newsletter. Also I have been recently receive the - new for me - Trawler Forum Newsletter from newsletter@trawlerforum.com. I have no problem with that but I understand now that some may be partially confused. Anyway you can always unsubscribe from the newsletter or contact Andy Robinowitz - andy@socialknowledge.com - for further explanation about Trawler Forum Newsletter.

No paranoia. Best designed approach is to send membership one email describing the newsletter and it's availability, with a link to the settings page where you could turn it off and on. This then provides members with the choice to receive it or not.

Otherwise it is spam.

Sorry Sir but I don't agree.

Spam emails are usually sent to many people at once trying to get them to buy a product or sign up for a service that will cause gain for the sender. One trick used by spammers is to put a link in a message to a Scam Website or an Adult (call me Porn) website. Moreover if the person clicks on the link, a request will be sent to the server it tells the spammers that there is someone at the address so they know that you read their email, then the spammers put that person on a list of people who actually open spam messages which could cause a person to receive even more email spam.

A newsletter, even unsolicited, is a printed or electronic periodical bulletin circulated to members of a group and that was the case for us.

Although I did recently delete all of my other social media accounts and that's been tremendously helpful in increasing my day to day happiness!

I don't play social media "games". And, I place under category of "Junk" the BS strays that come in upon occasion. That way the crappos of unsolicited email don't come up on my inbox once they have been Junked!

SPAM is actually unsolicited mail - paper or email, regardless of being commercial.

Under User CP/Edit Options you will see a radio button for whether or not you want to receive emails from the site. If this is not clicked than no emails should be sent.

Those who received the newsletter may have this turned on, and if they do not want to receive the newsletter they should "unclick" it. If they then receive any emails from the site, it is SPAM.

Are you sure it was a SHE or HER? :lol:d

I got it twice, so far. Nothing wrong with it. I opened it and it was just a few of the latest posts. Seemed pretty harmless?
