I thought I would update you guys. I finally got the jam nut and stuffing box nut loose. I used PB blaster and a pipe wrench. I appreciate all of your help.

Rudder dropped. Making everything bright again. I’ll finish this weekend.

Looking good! I'll be doing mine this year as well.

I read an article a long time ago about using clear Awlgrip to coat bronze so that it would not turn green. Anyone see any issues with doing that?

Cleaned up, but I’ll be painting this with gray bilge paint while I have the access. IMG_1520203232.640830.jpg

Thank you! The only part that really kicked my butt was the 5200. Believe it or not, after all I went through to restore that area, the stupid sealant did me in. It went on kind of sloppy.

It looks great, thanks for sharing.

I noticed you used a graphite packing on the rudder shaft. This stuff can cause metal pitting on some steels especially in a seawater environment so it wouldn't hurt to take a look at this again in the fall. Should be much easier now that you have it all cleaned up.

I would much rather see a teflon or flax packing put in there.
