Hello from a sailing refugee!

My husband and I just bought a Mainship 400 after 30 plus years of happy sailing!
We have joined this forum to get educated about trawlers and to make new friends. I will also be posting in another section about advice on the best route for bringing our new boat from New Bern, NC to Portsmouth, RI in the early Spring.
We are looking forward to many years of happy motoring!

Naturally I am looking for a best-route idea. Is there a AAA type guide for boating? I have not found one yet.

Opinions on ICW vs outside,for example, taking into consideration fuel consumption, time, etc would be great. We would be leaving April 1st.

Taking a new (to us) boat on our maiden voyage outside our comfort zone (New England waters) is exciting but we want to be smart about it also!! We are very experienced sailors so our navigational skills will certainly help us with our trawler.
