Hi from Yukon/ (PNW) Skagway AK

Hello,

We are from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory (Canada), our port is Skagway, AK. Previously had a bayliner 2556 as a 5 yr boat to get the best handle on what we really want and a trawler is the way to go (for us). Family of two adults and two small dogs who love being on the ocean and fishing.

We have been skulking/searching for a few weeks now and have a great respect for all the questions and comments we have found on this site.

We have our sights set on what we think is the perfect trawler for us (30' fast) and have many questions hoping y'all can help with!

Ive only flown into Skagway(twice), but don't recall a small-boat harbor...did I miss it?

How is life on the marge of Lake Labarge?

Rendezous is in Feb. always a fun event!

Skagway has had a small boat harbour for the 10 yrs since we've lived here and it's been expanding and improved. If you are flying in you would fly over the harbour, there is the harbour, then ferry dock and the airport all in close proximity.

Was probably there, don't know whether I didn't see it or have just forgotten...a condition I find true more and more these days.

Landing uphill and upwind, might have missed it; waaay over there across town.

The whole Lynn Canal area can be a windy and rough stretch of fjord. And one of the most beautiful places in SE Alaska.

Our last trip into Skagway/Haines in 2016, the wind direction forecast was only right 50% of the time over a four day period, and this was during settled weather. When it gets unsettled during the summer months, Eldred Rock likes to report 30-40 knots regularly!

50% accurate weather sounds about right, the Lynn Canal is just a wind tunnel, it doesn't take much to go from flat/calm to 3'-4' seas. It is some of the most beautiful scenery though and great fishing!

We think we may have found 'the one' but it's way over on the US east coast, there will be several hurdles to overcome :-(
