Hi all,

I'm looking for a mechanic near Moore Haven, FL (just west of Lake Okeechobee). We have the boat out of the water at Glades Boat Storage and need a rudder shaft seal replaced along with a generator oil leak diagnosed and fixed. We are nine hours away otherwise I'd take a crack at it. Any suggestions for anyone in the area or within an hour or so? Thanks for the help.

Shearwater Marine, Stuart. Expensive but competent.

I think River Forest Yachting Center has a service dept.

2 years ago the staff at River Forest LaBelle removed my shafts, had one replaced and the other reconditioned, replaced 2 cutlass bearings, inspected the shaft logs (determined that replacements were not necessary), repacked packing glands, and realigned the two drives. I had my engine surveyor do the recommended engine work, including the Westerbeke generator, but I'm sure River Forest can help you with your engine's needs. I was very happy with the work done and the outcome. We delivered the boat from there to Maryland with confidence and without problems related to anything they'd done.

The reccomendations above sound good, travel time from Stuart would be a killer.

The Glades yard should have an approved contractors list. Give them a call.

I live within spitting distance of both , R-F would be my choice , but bring your wallet.

Crusader Bpats (ANDY Grant) has his place on the south end of that property. He’s an old time boat builder and great mechanic who I would trust with your Jon in a heart beat. Best thing he is honest and reasonable. Walk over and ask him for an opinion. Let him know your a friend of the guy with the Gotcha on the Miami River.

mike of big o marine services is the best mechanical guy I have ever used. he doesagreat job and knows all the best labor in that area. his number is 863.228.7903.

Andy Grant is on the back of the boatyard 863-228 2786. Removed my transmission and had it rebuilt last summer, also changed intermediate and cutlass bearing for me.
Competent and reasonable.

I'll add a recommendation for Andy Grant. I did business with him for over 15 years when he was down in the Keys building Crusaders. I see him at Boat Shows every year or so, fair, very competent, get it done guy

:socool:

Andy Grant does have a good reputation , a "mechanic" from a boat yard list might be iffy.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll give them a try. Andy Grant is the only recommendation Glades had and he's too busy to return calls unfortunately.

Keep calling Andy, many times he is on the road doing repairs. I’ve brought him down to Miami to do fiberglass work and he does a lot of work in the Bahamas.

Try. *(863) 228-2786‬ In case he is not in the shop. He is a boat builder by trade and has built the Crusader for 30 years but can repair anything at a very reasonable rate.
