Dare to Dream
Audrey Sutherland- Murray, she was a several years annual guest in our Bed and Breakfast. She made several kayak voyages throughout Southeast Alaska over the years.

Carol and our Granddaughter made a special trip t Hawaii to visit Audrey as my Granddaughter is into kayaking big time.
They had a delightful time with Audrey.

Story- She related after reading our Bed and Breakfast guest book, noting a name of another frequent guest, a visiting orthodontist who also had a 65 foot charter boat that he used as a traveling floating dentist office visiting the various logging camps around Southeast Alaska. During one of those charter voyages, the dentist was anchored in a distant bay when two ladies (Audrey and a friend of hers) paddled up along side. Seems the guest of Audrey had failed to purchase a pair of rubber boots and was in dire need of same. Audrey asked if by chance the dentist has an extra pair. He did and in the correct size. He lowered them down and wished the two ladies a fair trip. Audrey related that in each boot was a bottle of Chardonnay wine.
Reading of his visiting our Bed and Breakfast, Audrey purchased a case of wine and instructed us to present same to the good dentist on his next visit.
Audrey's last paddle from our place, she launched off our sandy beach, was to Skagway. That was some 5 years ago.
I fear at her age then the voyage would be a hard pull. We have not heard from or about her.

By the way, there are notes written in several similar cabins along the coast, She is an institution for inflatable kayaks, She use to give symposiums for L.l.Bean the catalog company. Quite the lady and tough as nails she is or was.

Good catch Murray, good memories.

Murray- Update. Here is the latest and history as well on Audrey.
