On swagging eyes for lifelines which to use cooper or aluminum ferrules? and why.
Thank you in advance.

Sorry i can't spell either.
COPPER
The press fittings and swageless get kind of expensive and I'm trying to save some money.

Stainless and aluminum dont enjoy saltwater together.

Cant say if copper is a good substitute.....but I believe it is what I mostly see.

Copper. Pretty normal for marine use.

Aluminum would be bad with stainless; I've seen it only on cheap, lightly-loaded stuff ashore, never marine.

The mechanical terminals work well and really aren't that expensive. I've used Sta-Loc and the other common one is Norseman.

I'd have my lifelines made up and swaged stainless to stainless. Somehow 'lifeline' and 'save money', don't sit well together for me.

Stainless only. 316 if they exist.

Well, blow me down! Nicropress makes stainless steel ferrules for stainless wire. They don't say which alloy of SS. You'll have to page way down: Wire Rope | Nicopress

"I've used Sta-Loc and the other common one is Norseman."

This is the way to go if the boat is a keeper.

Reuse the expensive ends , which look good, and just toss the wire as needed.

When its time to sell the boat "curb appeal" is a big factor, cheap klugy lifelines make buyers wonder where else costs were saved, as they first climb aboard..
