Fun job today! As we got ready to leave for St Patty weekend party in Portland, the vacuflush pump made a funny noise I had not heard before. Lifted the hatch and I puked 3 times! Crap all over the place. Took about 4 hours to clean everything and install a new bellows. The 7 month old new pump blew a bellows right at the seam. I call Marine Sanitation and supply in Seattle and they replaced my spare bellows at no cost.

So today I was a Sanitation Engineer, with the responsibility of providing the Admiral a pot to piss in.......

Hi Tom.

I certainly like the last picture best!!!

Do you have any info about how the bellows failed? We lost a bellows to beach rocks a few years ago, seems the toddler grandkids were chowing down ashore and it took almost a year to get them out of the holding tank.

Forgive me but that was hilarious!
Only cause I've been there so to speak...
Thanks for making me laugh and again, I apologize.

Have no idea. I am very picky with my toilets and training guests. I asked the guy at Marine Sanitation what was the life expectancy of the bellows. He said at least 5 years or more. He was surprised when I told him the bellows separated at 7 months.

I do include a new bellows in my spares.

Yes sir, so do I! Good thing as I was going to explain to the Admiral how to crap in the river from a standing position.

The more that you stir it, the more it will stink –
The higher it’s piled, the deeper it sinks –
The more you proclaim it, the less that you know –
The greater the load, the more pompous the show

When you throw it, it splatters –
When you crush it, like jam it spreads out –
When you fart, there’s always a danger that some might come out –

Go home, and it’s with you as you walk through the door –
If you don’t have enough, you can always make more –
Give it to someone you love, and they’ll soon send it back –
Released in your undies, it leaves a brown track –

Now doctors won’t tell you what any turd knows –
The more that you eat, the bigger it grows –
If it plugs up your butt, it can ruin your day –
When nature comes calling, it’s best not to delay –1
So don’t blame it on God if your bowels should protest –
For to him, what we call **** is in fact one holy mess.

I suggest placing a sign facing sit down users:
1. Forbidding "any breaking of wind" while seated on the throne, and
2. Requiring "All turds weighing 1 pound or more be lowered on a string"
Hope this helps avoid any recurrence.

*Note to self* Think I'll check out those C-Head toilets again

Is there a better way to ruin a boating day than to have failure with a toilet. I guess we all went through any kind of issue with toilet, for me it was one of the first thing to fail while at anchor with no replacement part, and how miserable I felt!

Years ago, I was removing a bronze hand pumper, for a rebuild. My wife wanted a hand pumper in the forward head, just in case, the vacuum flush acted up.
When I went to pry off the exit hose with a screw driver, just ever so gently, it exploded , guess where, my mouth. My wife still talks about it today, since it was her toilet.

OF course with an RV head located over the waste tank, you would never need to become a Sanitary Engineer!

A tough retrofit tho.

Rebuilt my vacuflush pumps with new bellows and valves during my refit. Replace the valves every 2 years as preventive maintenance. Was going to wait till 6 years to replace the bellows, might switch to 4 years now. Much more pleasant to work on these systems after flushing 50 gallons of water and a little bleach through them first.

Now I don't regret not having Smellavision!

And that is why I don't like to poop on my boat.

Good thing ya caught it before heading North, but then I could "Stupervise" and hand ya beers.
LOL

Yeah right, you would be on your boat throwing me beers until I got it cleaned up.....

In the game of potty poker it appears that a straight flush always beats a full house.

I have this job to do in the spring as soon as it warms up in Canada. Not looking forward to it but, somebody has to do it! At least mine is still in the hose for now. Sucks eh!

When something like this happens it's time to list the boat for sale as is.

you could be cleaning the gutters, or mowing the grass, or taking out the garbage, or cleaning the garage....
Many have gone before you, many will come after.

I somehow think that this is one thread that could have done without the pics? (at least the first)(thankfully it wasn't a closeup)
