Dauntless Crosses the Atlantic Again

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
And of course I am his agent so do not forget my dues so I will be able to live on my boat full time :D

I already know how it starts....

"It was a dark and stormy night in the middle of the Atlantic..."

It's the middle and ending that have me captivated!

Leading man suggestions?

Those beam seas suck. Tacking makes it much more comfortable, but at a cost.
Hang in there Richard, were all pulling for ya!
I'd buy ya a couple of stiff ones, if we where you end up, you deserve it.
Cheers

Painting teak was common on long distance cruising sailboats.. They usually painted over varnish so that it would be easier to revert to teak brightwork once the long cruising was done.

Richard is far less concerned with fuel consumption than some have been on this thread. He has enough far more qualified folks than I to talk shop with, we just share amusing anecdotes. I will say he doesn't seem particularly anxious about anything to me.

Carry on Richard and a special thanks from me to you techies for providing updates to us and intel to him.
Ditto!

Got him about 500nm from Martinique as of about 10am et this morning.

Going the right direction now

Richard on Dauntless is now curving SW properly toward Martinique Isl.

He is down into the 17 degrees Latitude neighborhood which is a big step from where he was up in the 20 or 21 + degrees Latitude.

So as the winds are shifting & the seas & swells are moving he is swinging back on track for destination land fall.

Vessel on course --- Good job Skipper . :thumb:

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to the skipper & crew and all the "MV - Dauntless" supporters here on TF.

Thanks.

Mike

If it wasn't for Korean Dramas,a Dauntless would probably arrive in Martinique without me.
I'd have dove into the sea just to do something different.

Merry Christmas Richard and soon to come Happy New Year!

Safe travels Dauntless, and Merry Xmas to the fine Capt and crew.

Good Morning fellow Dauntless followers. This morning I asked some questions of Richard that we thought you would be interested in.
I asked him did you ever think years ago that you would be in the Atlantic and making this big crossing and the entire journey you are making?

The second question I asked him was did you ever have regrets for starting this journey after you got underway?

The next post will have his answers pasted in directly from him...

Years ago, how many?
Once we had the idea of the boat, yes, this was in the plan.
(1/2) 1. What , where did we want to go?
2. What does it take to do that?
3. How can I afford to do that?
4. How can I do it safely, no matter what?

(1/2) 5. All those answers led me to the Kadey Krogen 42.

A boat that for me made the right compromises. E.g. The large salon windows, great 99% of time

(1/2) Con't
$1000 of 1/2" Lexan solved that vulnerability
Turns out more peace of mind than anything else, JK designed a boat that doesn't let waves hit any Windows

(1/2) 3
In all the storms and other admittedly stupid stuff I ventured into, my Lexan has never been tested.
Bef i knew what I know now, 3 yrs ago on LI Sound

(1/2) 4
I was powering into large, steep seas. Sick as hell, I just wanted to end the misery.
The bow would dive into the trough, anchor almost touching water

(1/2) 5.
A tremendous bow wave would go flying over the top of the fly bridge, leaving just some spray on the ph windows

(1/2) This trip we've had to stop 3x dead on water. 1st for oil check only a few min, but other 2 times for 20+ min for steering hose
In 15' seas, not uw, she bobs.

(1/2) I'll post the video of me in the laz, while Micah watches these big ass waves approaching and then disappearing under us

(1/2) He was a bit scared, while I was bemused, content that I had the replacement hose handy and 80. water http://dlor.me/BDG3ZHR (16.4498, -56.9590) -
