LI Sound Marina - Need Options for Winter Projects

Hi,

We have a new to us 2005 Mainship 430 Aft cabin trawler and would like some work completed upon haul out. Where we’re located we don’t have access to the many skilled contractors that we need. We’re looking at marina’s along the south shore of CT or north shore of LI Sound to store the boat over the winter and have the work completed.

We are looking for recommendations to have these services completed upon haul out or prior to spring commissioning:

1. The gel coat rubbed out, glazed and waxed below the rub rail.
2. Rebuild the swim platform which will include taking it off the boat, re-building it and a re-install.
3. Apply an Awlgrip type epoxy/paint to all non-skid surfaces of the boat to include the swim platform.
4. Replacement of some hoses in the engine room

This boat has been well maintained mechanically, but the non-skid surfaces in some areas are beyond cleaning or buffing – we’ve tried everything.

I kept my boat at Portland Riverside Marina across the Ct R from Middletown last winter. It is a very friendly low cost yard. There is a good fiberglass guy who works out of there. Pm me for more details.

Have a look at Norwalk Cove. Nice location. Very complete.

We have been boating on Long Island for over 30 years now and there are a few places that do these tasks. In most cases getting them done timely in the spring is a tough fight and the prices down here are typically twice that or more than where you are.
Over the years when we needed paint or finish work we would head up near you to get the benefits of a job well done as well as much lower pricing for haul, block , shrink wrap, Awlgrip and polishing/waxing. Over the years we first have had our 38 then a 45 Pilothouse and finally a 47 Pilothouse hauled and worked on in Kingston at the Roundout Yacht basin. At RYB we had a number of Awlgrip projects completed by Rich Terpening there on site operating under the name "Watercolor marine".
They do great work, they have been around for 20+ years and they are cheaper and do not require the 120 mile trip one way out to where we are - right across from Norwalk cove. At RYB they will also allow you to do much of your own work if you desire something you should carefully check on if you bring a oat down near us.
If you insist on heading on down here then Norwalk Cove is a good choice after that one of the Brewer yards maybe in Glen Cove would be another option.
